Moi! Je! Ich! Ego! Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you! It means a LOT to hear that from you considering that you're something of a Stalky expert and amazing at writing dialects! I'm thrilled that you think everyone sounds right! :-D
(You got WW1 totally right as well, sadly)
I know I shouldn't be happy about that, but it is good to know that I got the WW1 details right as I was kind of worried about that. At least part of the credit is due to jackycomelately, who checked over my facts for me and found a faux pas I was able to fix. :-)
I liked the snapshot of M'Turk's domestic arrangements; and adored your Beetle!Kipling.
I'm really glad you liked both these aspects of the story. In terms of Beetle, I knew I couldn't have him in a WW1 setting and not acknowledge the tragic loss of Kipling's son. I really enjoyed writing both Turkey and Beetle, but Beetle was particularly satisfying. :-)
And Stalky absoutely WOULD have night-time raids on the enemy trenches.
Oh, I'm so happy you think so! As soon as I read about trench raids, I thought it would be perfect for Stalky! :-)
Now then, I want to hear about Maurice's adventures in Persia with Stalky.
LOL! Oh, man! I wouldn't even know where to start! However, I wouldn't mind if another writer decided to take a stab at it some time... *g* To be honest, the only idea I came up with for the Persia adventure was that Stalky shoots Maurice in the leg (accidentally-done-on-purpose) because he's sick of seeing him pine after Alec. However, I decided to leave that in my head as it seemed a little too frivolous. Still, I'd love to see a scene where Stalky tells Maurice to stop mooning over Alec when he should be longing for the beautiful Miss Edna May instead... ;-)
