*Not* a Bitch Rant for Once

Omigod! I just got a serious raise! :-) And when I say "serious," I'm not talking an extra couple of hundred a year. I'm talking some serious cash! In fact, I'm tempted to re-read the letter from the director of human resources to make sure that I'm not imagining it all! Even after calling my mom to share the news, it doesn't seem real. I'm expecting to go in tomorrow and discover it was all some huge mistake.

It's not as if I wasn't expecting some kind of raise. I mean, my salary goes up a bit each year to cover the cost of living, etc., but I've never seen a pay increase like this! I was actually surprised when my boss wanted to discuss the raise with me as we usually just receive a letter. Then she informed me that she and my supervisor had sat down and discussed the fact that my salary no longer reflected my years of service or level of experience. They apparently went to the director of human resources and discussed what a suitable increase (e.g. what the company could afford) might be. When my boss told me what my new salary would be, I think the first words out of my mouth were, "Oh, wow!" and "Thanks!" To be honest, I was stunned that she and my supervisor went to that kind of trouble on my behalf. I was under the impression that I wasn't that important. Now I feel...almost human. I think this raise is really going to undermine the persecution complex I've been building up over the years. *g*

I know this euphoria isn't going to last, so I'll ride it for as long as I can. Suffice it to say, it's nice to feel appreciated. It's been a very long time since I've felt that way at work. And, yes, the extra money certainly doesn't hurt either!
