I just finished re-watching "Utopia," "The Sound of Drums," and "The Last of the Time Lords" because SPACE is showing both parts of "The End of Time" tonight! Yes, I realize that a large portion of my flist has watched "The End of Time" already, but I've somehow managed to be patient enough to wait for the Canadian broadcast. I've even managed to avoid spoilers...with the exception of a couple of little things I might have accidentally picked up from a John Simm interview. Anywaaaay, as my favourite character from New Who is returning, I thought I'd post this vid to celebrate:

Haahaahaaahaaaahaaaahaaaahaaaaah! *Cough, cough*

[Insert maniacal John Simm laughter]

By strange ways, I saw it yesterday, but decided to watch the Canadian broadcast too. It's been so long since I've watched Doctor Who broadcast on proper TV. Kind of fun.

The last 25 minutes were perfect.

Great as Simm is though, I think Bernard Cribbins is the absolute best. (I've also always loved that his Doctor Who character has the same first name as my grandfather.)

I watched The War Games as my preperation for part two. That's Old School geekery.

Well, although I love Bernard Cribbins, who was born in the same place as my maternal grandparents (Oldham, Lancashire), I'm afraid I love John Simm just a tiny bit more...especially when he's multiplied by about 6 billion... *dreamy sigh* And I feel a little less guilty knowing that he grew up in Greater Manchester was well. *g*

I'm not even sure if I've seen "The War Games". I think I've seen it, but it would have been several years ago.

The War Games is out on DVD now with a whole bunch of lovely special features. It's problem - and the problem with any old Doctor Who of more than 4 episodes - is that there is a fair bit of padidng. It's 10 episodes long, but they've only got enough story material for about five episodes. So, there's a lot of getting captured and escaping and getting captured again,

But it's the first appearance of the Time Lords (in the black and white robes that the cihld Master wears in those flashbacks),. There's also a villain called the War Chief who is something like a prototype of the Master (and some fanfic and the 1980s role-playing game say he was an earlier incarnation of the Master). (Although it's his non-Time Lord boss "The War Lord" who is the more memorable bad guy.) It features Patrick Troughton's regeneration. And his two companions are forced to lose their memories of their travels.

Ah, okay. I've definitely seen clips from it, though I have a feeling I didn't see all 10 episodes. The title definitely rang some bells, possibly because it's the episode where Jamie and Zoe (Was it Zoe?) had their memories erased. Oh! I also have the novelization, though I may or may not have read it in my teens as it was given to me (along with a number of other Target books) by a friend of mine not too long ago.

I figured that you'd like that part! Simm does such a good madman.

Oh, I loved every delicious moment with the Master! And I laughed so hard I cried when he created his "Master" race! *g* I'm totally going to rewatch the special tonight! :-)

Yes, John Simm does insanity really well. I'm guessing that's why he's played Caligula and Raskolnikov in Crime and Punishment. Sam Tyler too, for that matter. *g*

I didn't really like the 2 part finale. I fell asleep during the first part and the only time I welled up was dr saying 'I don't want to go' folowed by me thinking 'well you chose to bloody leave' ;p

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it. For me, it was worth it for the Master alone. However, I'm kind of insane. *g* I did find myself telling the Doctor to "Suck it up" when he was bitching about having to save Wilf, but, then, the Doctor thought that he might die permanently given the prophecy.
