Very cute dogs and cat. :) And of course a funny story. :) Speaking of iPod Touch (or iPhone) - I have been thinking about posting about the free e-book apps for the IOS, I just never got round to actually doing it. In any case, I have found two different apps that include all the Sherlock Holmes stories, not to mention all kinds of other free classics for iBooks, Kobo and a couple of others. I'm sure you've found many of them already, but if not, it's easy to search for more.
