crimsoncorundum has been kind enough to share her knowledge of iPod Touch and other IOS devices in her most recent LJ entry. She covers quite a few topics, including free e-book apps and the pros and cons of certain e-book readers. I'll fully admit that I'm still a hopeless newbie when it comes to iPod Touch, but I think even seasoned users might learn something they didn't know before. It's also great if you're thinking of buying an e-book reader, or would like more information on the subject in general. Anywaaaaaay, here's crimsoncorundum's most excellent post:

Mine continued to be glitchy, so this morning I reverted it back to factory settings and re-installed everything from backup. Working much better. Stanza still isn't, but I'm liking Kindle okay. Only problem is that I'll have to re-download everything from AOOO! in mobi, which is a bit of a pain, but doable.

I finally started to look into what new features the 3rd generation will give me. Voice memo which is fun and voice commands for music which is hilarious! I kept trying to get it to give me Patrick and it keep insisting I wanted Metric! It doesn't like The Stump apparently. I can also multitask now. If I click the home button twice it'll open apps on the bottom of the display! Nice not to have to go through the home screen when I want to turn off music.

All fun stuff, but if you decide to upgrade I'd hold out for 4th or 5th I think. You need a camera or video to make the upgrade really worth it. Not that the third isn't great, but the second covered the basics really well I think. Of course now that I've hopefully fixed the glitching I might be seduced by the faster processing speed.

Have you had any luck setting up the wireless yet? It's pretty fun to lay on the couch and surf.

I'm sorry you had to revert back to factory settings and re-install everything from backup, but it's great that your baby is working much better now. It sucks that you still can't use Stanza, especially if downloading in mobi is a bit of a pain. I haven't deleted any of the stories you had on your previous Touch, so I can always check under certain authors if you think there's a story you might be forgetting. That reminds me. I keep meaning to add more fic to my Pinboard bookmarks.

The 3rd generation features sound really cool, especially if they've provided another option for accessing apps. All the same, I'll hold out for 4th or 5th if I do upgrade at some point.

I have to confess that I still haven't had any luck setting up wireless. I went to a Timothy's with wi-fi and it wouldn't let me connect. I'm going to try to do some research on it this weekend if there's time. I'm guessing that there's probably some extremely obvious step I'm missing. *g*

Hmmm...generally I click on the Safari icon, the browser opens, then a window pops up with "Select a Wireless Network", you select one, and another window opens and asks for a password.

What's happening instead?

Well, that's exactly what happens, but I don't know what to use for a password. At my parents' place, I tried to use the password they were given and it didn't work. For my visit to Timothy's, I didn't know what the password was. I kind of assumed I wouldn't need one in a public place (like a coffee shop) or else people would be having to ask all the time -- unless they do and I just never noticed. Okay, I'll admit it. I'm an idiot. However, my only previous experience with wi-fi was using a laptop at Osgoode Hall. If I remember correctly, the only password I needed was to connect to the main network at work.

Sadly, I think mostly you have to ask for the password. If you are sure you have the password correct at your parents' (easy thing to get wrong), you might want to double-check that you selected the correct network and didn't accidentally click on a neighbour's instead. You tend to see multiples these days.

I'll be at my parents' again this weekend coming up, so I'll give it another shot. It's quite possible that I selected the wrong network. I'll have to experiment and see. If multiples do come up then that could very well be the problem.
