Tenth Anniversary of New Who!
I only just realized (thanks to an email from the BBC Doctor Who Official Shop) that today is the tenth anniversary of New Doctor Who, which debuted on March 26, 2005. I can't believe it's been ten years! I still remember tuning in to watch that first episode, excited but trepidatious after the previous attempt to resurrect the franchise (that awful 1996 TV movie). Happily, I didn't have to get too far into the episode before I realized that New Who was good. Really, really, really good.
I tried to think of some way to pay tribute to this milestone and ended up on YouTube. Not surprisingly, the BBC put together a tenth anniversary trailer. I could have done with less Amy and Missy (who I hate with a fiery passion), but I think the vid is cool and brings back some great memories:
I'll probably watch "Rose" tonight to celebrate, but I don't think I'll have time for anything else. I hope other Doctor Who fans find fun ways to mark this special occasion.
While I'm on the subject of anniversaries, I'm deeply ashamed to admit that I didn't celebrate the 30th anniversary of the PBS debut of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (the Granada series) on March 14th. Sorry, Jeremy! :-( I turn once again to YouTube to save the day:

Thanks for reminding me! I found this a couple of days ago:

I'm not too happy about the current Doctor Who, but fortunately, there's still Clara and I have a couple of favorite episodes from the latest season too.

No problem. :-) Like I said, I wouldn't have known the anniversary was today if it hadn't been for that email. I mean, I knew it was coming, but I couldn't remember the exact date.

Great article! I think it highlights all of Donna's best moments and demonstrates why she made such a fantastic companion. I wish she had been around longer. I think she was probably my favourite New Who companion. It was refreshing to see an older woman who wasn't stick thin and flirting with the Doctor. She was like the Doctor's best friend and on a more equal footing with him.

I'm torn. There are things I like about the new Doctor and things I don't like. I love the alien Tom Baker kind of quality about him, but I'm getting a bit tired of the way he treats Clara. A friend of mine compared it to the way Sherlock treats Molly in Sherlock and I think that's an excellent comparison. Lately, I haven't been thrilled with where the episodes have been going. For one thing, Steven Moffat seems to be returning to the kind of convoluted, self-indulgent writing he favoured in the sixth season. I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to the rest of the eighth series or dreading it. If they bring Missy back (without a major character overhaul) then I might stop watching.
