In Memory of Tristan

My mom's cat had to be put down today. After performing a biopsy, the vet discovered that poor Trissy had cancer, so my mom decided to have him put to sleep rather than prolong his suffering. Although he was only ten, I think Tris had a good life. He was certainly loved and filled a special place in all our hearts. I know my whole family is going to miss him terribly.

In memory of Tristan, I'd like to post a link I've been meaning to post for weeks. I first saw it on [livejournal.com profile] mangst's LJ and wanted to include it among my other links. The Animal Rescue Site provides food to animal shelters throughout the States. By clicking on the purple "Fund Food for Animals" button, you can help fund this program. Each click is tallied by the site servers. When you reach the "Thank You" page (after clicking on the purple button), you are shown some ads from the site sponsors. That's all there is to it. So, in memory of Tristan (or any pet you may have lost), click that purple button!

Now, I realize that some of the more cynical people on my flist probably think this is a scam, but, as far as I can tell, it's legit. In any case, I'm going to include the URL with my links. I'll probably also post the link for The Literacy Site, as literacy is an issue that's close to my heart. Oh, and at some point, I'll try to dig up some Canadian equivalents for these sites.

My condolences on the loss of Tristan. *hugs* Promoting the Rescue Site seems a wonderful way to remember him. I'll click today in his honor.

As for the Rescue Site, I'm sure it's possible that it is a scam, but I doubt it. They do not ask for any personal information, and I have not got any spam emails that I could link back to them. And I have bought items from their sponsors without any problems (it is not necessary to purchase anything, I rarely do). As far as I can tell they get sponsors to donate food and such in return for advertising space and a countable audience for those ads (us).

Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] mangst. I'm glad you agree. :-) I had been meaning to promote the site ever since reading your own LJ entry on the subject, so when I found out about Tris it suddenly became a priority instead of something in my pile of "things to do".

I don't think it's a scam either. However, I know many people become wary when they're told to click buttons on strange websites -- even if said websites are recommended by friends. In any case, I'm glad to hear that you haven't received any spams that could be linked back to them and that you've been able to purchase items from the sponsors without any trouble. I think you're probably right about it simply being a matter of the sponsors wanting to have a countable audience for their ads in return for donated food. :-)

I'm sorry for the loss of Tristan. My heart goes out to you and your family during this sad time. My family lost our beloved dog, Jade, two years ago now, and we still miss her very much.

I think letting us know about the Rescue Site is a great way to honour Tristan having been loved and a part of your family. I'll definitely be adding the link to my bookmark list so I can try to click on it regularly.

I remember you mentioning Jade. I'm sorry your family had to lose him. Pets are members of the family and their absence continues to be felt no matter how much time passes.

I'm glad you agree that promoting the Rescue Site is a fitting way to honour Tris. It would be awesome if you could add the link to your bookmark list! Thank you very much! :-) I added the URL to my own list of links so that I'd be able to click on it regularly too.

Sorry to hear about this. What a wonderful name for a cat - Tristran (well, it's a wonderful name for anyone - but particularly a cat). Love your icon ....

My mom named him after Tristan from All Creatures Great and Small, which is fitting considering that Tristan is a vet with a soft spot for cats. :-)

Love your icon ....

Thanks! It seemed appropriate for the entry. Marmie and Inky were still around when we got Tris. I'd like to think that all three have now been reunited.

Hey, Kiki! I knew you had gotten an LJ account, but I didn't think I'd hear from you this quickly! I was pleasantly surprised when I came across your comment! Thanks for taking the time to post here! :-)

We've got to get you some icons, girl. That's, like, half the point of LJ. Well, for me, anyway. *g* I've got some Joe Flanigan pics on my hard drive. I'll see if I can whip up something for you tonight or tomorrow and send it your way. We should also make at least one Trissy icon to go with your username. When I come over on Saturday, we'll have to scan some pictures (if you and Junior don't get around to it first) and play around with your LJ settings.
