Hudson's Bay Holiday Window Display
As my brother wanted to check out the Hudson's Bay holiday window display, and I wanted to go to a talk on Christmas, Dickens and Conan Doyle in the Arthur Conan Doyle Room at the Toronto Reference Library, we decided to combine both activities. I wasn't sure if B would find the talk at all interesting, but he seemed to enjoy it. He hadn't been to either the Toronto Reference Library or the ACD Room, so I think he was duly impressed. Anyway, after the library talk, we walked to Queen and Yonge to see the windows:

I'm afraid my photos don't do the displays justice, especially as they all had mechanical elements, visual components, and music playing. This vid is pretty rough, but it gives you some idea of what it was like to be there in person, especially with all the people and the sounds of downtown Toronto. *g*

I think the windows were a lot of fun. It was great to see them. :-) I'm not surprised that they have a holiday display in Gothenburg, and it seems likely that there would be something in Stockholm as well.
Was the talk interesting?
The talk was interesting. It was rather short at 30 minutes, but the curator covered quite a bit. I definitely learned some things I didn't know. For example, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's uncle, Richard Doyle, illustrated all of Charles Dickens' Christmas books except for A Christmas Carol. The curator was able to show us some Richard Doyle illustrations, as well as some other books related to the theme of her talk. There were also some items related to Charles Dickens (including first editions of all of Dickens' Christmas books) that had been loaned to the Toronto Reference Library from a private collector.
