I NEVER Thought *This* Would Happen!
I NEVER thought this would happen, but three of my stories (A Private View, Buckingham & Shaftesbury: The Schemes and the Theatrics and The Boathouse (particularly The Boathouse)) were mentioned in an academic paper called Heritage Film Audiences 2.0: Period Film Audiences and Online Film Cultures. For anyone who's curious, the relevant material can be found in pages 36-37 of the pdf document. Some other very worthy works are also analyzed, including

I have to confess that I howled when I read what Dr. Monk wrote about The Boathouse -- mostly due to sheer shock and joy and not because I disagreed with what she wrote. *g*

How did your Big Bang story work out? Did you get it submitted in time?

And I'm looking forward to your reaction to this evening's Sherlock! I thought it was fab, very discombobulating!

Ah, thanks,
And I'm looking forward to your reaction to this evening's Sherlock! I thought it was fab, very discombobulating!
I'm downloading the episode as we speak! I'm hoping it will be ready around the same time as my chili. *g* It's great to know that you enjoyed the episode because I'm really looking forward to it myself! :-)

*collapses in a heap*
I just burst out laughing at 1 a.m. in my kitchen because the author quoted this exchange of yours:
‘The pastor said I was the most beautiful bride
he’d ever seen’ – ‘Alec, the pastor was blind’
*applauds you and squees*

I was killing myself laughing as I read everything Dr. Monk wrote about "The Boathouse". I couldn't believe some of the material she quoted, such as the exchange you cited! It's just so surreal.
*applauds you and squees*
Thank you very much! Of course, I'm applauding and squeeing for you as well! :-D

I've just skipped through the article to the relevant parts because my brain's not up to reading anything academic right now, but I'll try to read it more critically soon.

That's an extremely kind thing to say! Thanks,
I've just skipped through the article to the relevant parts because my brain's not up to reading anything academic right now, but I'll try to read it more critically soon.
I've only made it as far as page three because I just haven't had time to read more. However, I'm hoping to make some more progress tonight. Apparently, Dr. Monk is hoping to receive some feedback, so I'm going to send her a message when I've finished reading the paper. If you end up reading the paper yourself and feel like leaving some feedback yourself, you can find Dr. Monk's email address near the end of the paper.

OMG! Squee! You got recognized by academia. How cool is that?
Seriously, you have an amazing talent and it is wonderful that you've been called out for it. "The Boathouse" was a vivid enough piece of storytelling that it was compelling without my having any idea of the original material.
Edited to add: Stop blushing. You know it's true. Just run with it.

I KNOW! It's so surreal and bizarre! I'm still having trouble believing it!

You're being much too kind, but thanks again! :-D I'm happy to hear that you were still able to enjoy "The Boathouse" without being familiar with the original source material. That's always wonderful to hear. :-D

LOL! I think you know me a little too well! *g* Okay, I'll accept your very generous compliment and run with it. :-D

Sorry I haven't commented on any of your Sherlock reviews. I've been avoiding spoilers. I still haven't managed to watch any of the episodes yet. My cold came back and I've just been dragging myself to work and back. I will never be well again! Okay, that might be a slight exaggeration. I'm actually starting to recover.

Why, thank you! I'm happy you think so! I'm still in a state of disbelief myself! *g*
Personally, I only ever quoted my favourite works when I was writing academic stuff :) I imagine other academics probably really enjoyed the quotes! I know my committee always did.
Well, I don't know if my stories are on Dr. Monk's list of favourites. I think she chose to focus on them due to their genre more than anything, but it's nice to know that academics sometimes quote their favourite works in an academic context. I'm sure other academics did enjoy your quotes, especially if your committee did. ;-)
I'm on page 20 of the PDF (of course I read page 36-37 first), but I really felt like I needed more context to properly appreciate her discuss of your contribution.
Oh, that's fabulous! I know Dr. Monk is looking for feedback, so maybe you could send her a quick email at some point if you have time. I just sent her a message myself as I finished reading the paper last night. Although I'm not an academic, I found the paper really interesting -- the whole paper, not just pages 36-37. *g*
Hem hem. Now I'm going to have to actually watch the film!
Really? Wow! :-) Well, my copy is Region 2 and a friend has borrowed it. However, I've been toying with the idea of buying the 2004 special edition to get those special features that I've only been able to see on YouTube. *Accidentally looks up the film on Amazon (http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00014NE62/ref=ox_ya_os_product)* Ooooooh! It comes with a booklet/production notes and has at least one Easter egg! *Accidentally purchases DVD* Well, Uncle S and Aunty A, guess what I put the rest of my Christmas cheque towards? *g* Sooo...obviously you can borrow the DVD once it's in my hot little hands. Or we could watch it together if you're interested. I'm expecting my Sherlock soundtrack in early February, so I'll probably pick up both packages from my parents at the same time.
Sorry I haven't commented on any of your Sherlock reviews. I've been avoiding spoilers. I still haven't managed to watch any of the episodes yet.
No worries. I just assumed that you hadn't had a chance to watch them. I don't blame you for avoiding spoilers. I tried to do the same thing myself and was mostly successful.
My cold came back and I've just been dragging myself to work and back. I will never be well again! Okay, that might be a slight exaggeration. I'm actually starting to recover.
Oh, no! How horrible! :-( Well, I hope you truly are on the mend. Is there anything you can take that would booster your immune system? I know my mom swears by Cold-FX (http://cold-fx.ca/products-boost-immune-system.htm), but I have no idea if it's vegan. They lost me on CVT-E002. *g*

LOL! Yeah, I know, eh? Dr. Monk told me that she had a lot of fun researching this paper. In fact, she apparently had to stop herself from gathering information and writing even more. *g*
