Adventures with Sherlock Holmes: Life and Times of the Master Sleuth

On Saturday, I made a return visit to the Adventures with Sherlock Holmes: Life and Times of the Master Sleuth exhibit at the Toronto Reference Library. Although I'd gone a couple of weeks ago, I had stupidly neglected to bring my camera, though it honestly hadn't occurred to me that I'd be able to take pictures. In any case, as my mom was staying with me for the weekend, I dragged her along. Okay, "dragged" isn't really the right word. My mom was actually enthusiastic about the exhibit and seemed duly impressed. Anywaaaaaay, I went nuts with my camera, so there are several photos under the cut!

The exhibit was basically divided into three sections: Moriarty, The Hound of the Baskervilles, and Holmes
in general. The quotes on the wall were a clever way of indicating these different themes. Here's one of them:

Kenneth MacMillan as Moriarty in the 1953 ballet, The Great Detective.
MacMillan played the role of both Holmes and Moriarty in this production.

goat skin, black frog skin, green fish skin, and red calf skin.

It looks like a great exhibit with some weird and wonderful stuff! I particularly like the magazine covers. The pastiches are fun. That book cover from the Czech Republic is gruesome.

I'm glad you got to go a second time and take these excellent photos.

Thank you very much, karen9! :-) I'm grateful that I was able to go back and get those pictures. I was also happy to have an excuse to pay a second visit to the exhibit. *g* I think the range of weird and wonderful stuff was the best thing about it. Like you, I was thrilled to see all those magazines (especially Beeton's Christmas Annual) and definitely got a kick out of the pastiches. I've got some rather strange pastiches in my own Sherlockiana section, but I don't think any of them measure up to the works on display! I agree with you about the book cover from the Czech Republic. I think they could have found a less gruesome way to create a cool effect.
