Seriously Contemplating Murder

The individual who lives above me has been drilling something for at least an hour now. Well, this person stopped for about 15 minutes when I had a hissy fit and whacked my Swiffer Sweeper on the ceiling. Several times. However, the god-damn sonofabitch is back at it again!

I tried to keep my temper. I really did. I mean, I know I have no right to complain as it's a perfectly reasonable hour of the day. However, it's quite loud and I've been fighting a migraine since last night. Well, okay, it's more of a mild headache now, but the drilling is still f*ckin' annoying. And it's not as if it's the first time I've heard it. It's something that happens quite often and has been happening over several months. In fact, there have been times when Bob the Idiot Builder has drilled or hammered at an unreasonable hour. Once it was around midnight.

I don't know what this person is constructing, but I don't think an ark is going to do much good on the ninth floor of a Toronto apartment building. I mean, even if the fictional flood waters reach that level how the f*ck is the bastard going to get the ark out? Smash through the walls?

Sorry that my holiday post is a rant. However, I haven't had a good rant on LJ for a long time, which is a minor miracle considering my Taurean temper. Subjecting my poor flist to my wrath has also prevented me from doing something stupid and pointless like thumping my ceiling again or going up to the ninth floor and giving said a$$hole a piece of my foul-tempered mind.

Uh, I'm hoping that my next post will be filled with lots of cheerful holiday photos (e.g. blackmail material) as I took a number of pictures over Christmas with my new cell phone. I even have a couple of short vids of my mom's adorable kitten, Minerva. I'm just waiting for my USB cable to arrive and I should be set.

LOL! Thankfully, the bastard above me seems to have stopped drilling - for the time being, anyway. However, I still find myself feeling almost sympathetic towards Sweeney Todd... *g*

I'm thinking of seeing Sweeney Todd (the movie), so I'll be sure to look out for any reviews you might post on LJ about the film or the stage production.

Well, if you want to see it, let me know. I'm likely to see it for a third time in the next week or so. Lots of blood -- although the audience seemed more offended by the concept of singing.

Brutal murder and cannibalism -- no problem. Musicals -- that strikes terror into the hearts of the homophobic Johnny Depp fans I saw in the audience. (The first time I saw it, I swear everyone else in the audience was between the ages of 17 - 23. Weird audience for Stephen Sondheim.)

Us Taurusses are known to be the patient ones... except when cross. *g* Glad to read the drilling has stopped. I used to have a neighbour who smoked pot non-stop, played loud music at 4 in the morning, and occasionally yelled angrily at no-one in particular. I would have gladly swapped him for the occasional drilling.

I suffer migraines and have lived with inconsiderate drillers for neighbours, so my condolences and many happy thoughts go out to you. I can't say I miss living in an apartment. Okay, when the grass needs cutting or the snow needs shoveling I sometimes miss it. *g* I'm just thankful you mentioned the 9th floor. That ensures that the inconsiderate driller is not my "kind of" ex-brother-in-law (they are officially separated but still sharing living quarters). I'm not sure you could get him to understand that you're ticked. He has a language problem...English not being his first or best.

Usually, I'm quite happy to live in an apartment, especially when it comes to avoiding jobs like cutting the grass or shovelling snow. However, there are times when I'm painfully aware of the people who live around me. I'm not sure who lives above me, though I certainly wouldn't have blamed you if, by some crazy coincidence, it had ended up being your kind of ex-brother-in-law. *g*

My computer died last night. Well actually just the touch pad and I beat it till it worked again this morning. I wonder if my neighbours heard me? The walls are thin here, one of my ex-neighbours had a loud girlfriend, and I don't mean talking. Oh, and the hours they would pick to go at it. Honestly, she actually woke me up a few times.

I'm sorry about your touch pad. They can be a real pain sometimes. I was on my mom's laptop on Boxing Day and was reminded of just how sensitive they can be. Well, at least you were just beating the touch pad. Whenever I have computer problems, my tiny apartment is usually blue with the language that comes spouting out of my mouth. *g*

I'm glad you don't have to deal with that loud girlfriend anymore. It must have been pretty bad if she actually managed to wake you up a few times. *Sigh* Neighbours. They're so much fun.

It's strange that the typical audience has less problems with the blood and gore and takes issue with Sweeney Todd being a musical. I bet in the fifties it would have been the other way round. I guess it's a sign of the times we live in.

We had a neighbour like that. We have no idea what their names really were; but we still call her "Mona" when we speak about her. She would often wake us around 2am. It was fifteen years ago and we still chuckle about it.

Even worse, one night they only played pieces of the songs -- including Wreck of the Esmond Fitzgerald. Who blasts WofEF at 3am? (I know -- drunk people).

And you've also earned yourself a horrible neighbour award! *g* Considering the other horror stories I've been hearing, I feel pretty silly about my rant. I mean, the closest I can come to your WofEF anecdote is a previous neighbour who lived above me and decided to play "The Impossible Dream" about 10 times in a row one night around 11:30. I was torn between laughing and crying. I felt like Deanna Troi in that episode of TNG -- the one where she literally couldn't get that song out of her head! Anywaaaaay, I'll try to remember everyone else's tales of woe next time I hear the drilling...unless it's after midnight.

You will. You definitely will. I took a number of pictures of her over Christmas and Boxing Day. If for some reason I can't transfer my pictures from my cell phone then I'll get my mom to send me some from her digital camera. Well...I'll get my brother to show my mom how to send me pictures from her digital camera. Although I've explained it two or three times, she still hasn't figured out how to send pictures or files as email attachments. *g*

I hope he's stopped drilling by now. You could always plan a covert counter attack. AC/DC played loud is always fun. Or vacuuming at strange times.

Yes, he's stopped drilling thankfully, or, at least, I haven't heard any drilling. I stayed over at a friend's place for New Year's Eve, so there was about a 24-hour window in which he could have been drilling...Anywaaaay, I'll definitely remember your advice next time I'm tempted to strangle my neighbour.

I'm happy to say that I'm headache free and enjoyed ringing in the New Year. I hope 2008 treats you most excellently. :-) Try to survive the heat if you can. If it makes you feel any better, Toronto is expecting a major drop in temperature tonight...

Oh I so totally feel your pain, my upstairs neighbors are completely fucking insane. Like "I think they might have a meth lab up there" insane. Seriously. The latest was a flood of water coming through my bathroom ceiling at 3 in the morning. But the scary one was when the guy up there started screaming and putting his fists through walls and doors. They have even, I shit you not, engaged in Flamenco dancing on their dining room floor. And I'm not even going into the noisy sex at odd hours.

Okay, if you don't earn first prize for the horrible neighbour award then you should definitely be a runner up, ebonlock! I hope these are things that don't happen every day. I definitely would have complained and/or possibly moved out. While I have had water leaking through my bathroom ceiling (and a super who was slow to do anything about it) and used to live beside a couple who would occasionally hold screaming matches, I haven't had to deal with fists through walls and doors, Flamenco dancing or any of that other crazy sh*t. You sincerely have my sympathy and my gratitude. Like some of the other people who were kind enough to comment, you've made Bob the Idiot Builder seem like a dream in comparison! *g*
