Good luck with both the work project and the brainstorming session for your Mystrade fic. The only thing I can come up with is Lestrade feeling awkward and uncomfortable because of a certain social situation. I'm probably being influenced by fengirl88, but Lestrade could feel like a fish out of water if they're at a fancy party or somewhere with a lot of posh people. Oh, another idea that just popped into my head is something that triggers a bad memory or a situation involving a phobia. I know Lestrade thought Mycroft was claustrophic in that elevator, but maybe Lestrade himself has a phobia that's real.
