I sometimes come across fic writers who definitely deserve more feedback and attention than they've been receiving. I think [livejournal.com profile] writerswhimsey is one of those writers. She's been penning a wonderful Irene Adler/Lestrade series that seems to have gone practically unnoticed. Now, I know some of you are cringing because you're not usually into het, but I would strongly recommend that you at least give the first story in the series (A Word's Worth) a try. It shows Detective Sergeant Lestrade's first meeting with both Irene Adler and Sherlock under rather interesting circumstances. Throughout the course of the story, you see Lestrade and Irene go from Detective Sergeant and suspect to something approaching friendship. Well, flirty friendship. *g* If nothing else, I think this story is worth reading because of [livejournal.com profile] writerswhimsey's portrayal of a modern day Irene Adler, who works for Mycroft Holmes as a "Consultant". She's also friends with Sherlock, who she met at Cambridge. And, as one would expect, she's beautiful, highly intelligent, and more than capable of looking after herself.

[livejournal.com profile] writerswhimsey has very helpfully created an index for the entire series to date, which is arranged in chronological order. While the first story [livejournal.com profile] writerswhimsey wrote in the series is Wake Up Call, I would suggest starting with A Word's Worth and working your way down the list.

I will check it out once I have enough brain power to absorb a new pairing. Are we excited about a new season?

I hope you do enjoy the series if you decide to check it out. :-) I'm excited about a new season of Sherlock, but worried as well. I mean, they did such a wonderful job on the first three episodes that I'm wondering if they can keep up the momentum. I know there are exciting things afoot based on the material they'll be using, so I'm trying to remain optimistic.

BTW, I did end up reading I'd Be Fired If That Were My Job (http://archiveofourown.org/works/43968) on Monday night and really enjoyed it. I really like the way frausorge was able to deal with the issue of multiple personalities in a humourous but insightful way. I especially liked it at the end when Pete freaked out about Patrick sleeping with Jason, only for Patrick to reveal that Jason was the closest he thought he could get to being with Pete. Oh, and bonus points for Hemingway showing up to cuddle with them before breakfast. :-)

Yay! I'm so happy you enjoyed it! Only story ever where they have sex, but their relationship remains gen! Outside of naked cuddling that is! For me, it's Pete offering to sleep with or marry Patrick despite being straight. Sniff. You gotta love Hemingway!

Oh! There's two other parts to the series. Both tell Julie's story if memory serves. Click on series link at the bottom of the story itself or the forward arrow by the series link to go to the next one if you are interested.

I've read A Word's Worth (a while back), but couldn't comment until now. I haven't had access to a computer (just my iPod Touch). A very well written story, thanks for letting me know about it.

And thank you for sharing. Yes, I'm sure I'll keep reading your excellent fics. :) I'm into a number of different pairings in the Sherlock Holmes-universe and though this was a new one for me, it certainly seemed to work fine.
