I had my first guest come to stay at my new place on Friday. EX Weekend had rolled around again, so my mom and I made our annual pilgrimage to the
CNE. It took a lot of work to whip this apartment into half-decent shape, but my mom seemed very happy with how the place looked. Anywaaaaaay, it was a fun weekend and a very welcome break for both of us.
As always, we made sure to visit the EX during the weekend of the Cat Show:
Look at that face!
This year, there's a wonderful exhibit called Star Trek: "50 Artists. 50 Years." The
artwork is fantastic, so fantastic that I ended up buying posters of my two favourite pieces.
Ohhhhhhh, Captain Archer...
KHAAAAAN!!!
Anyone who's read my previous CNE posts, will be familiar with the yearly pics of the sand sculptures:
As usual, we both spent more money than we should have, but we did get some good deals. I was able to get a copy of
Dr Bell and Mr Doyle – The Dark Beginnings of Sherlock Holmes (the first series of
Murder Rooms: The Dark Beginnings of Sherlock Holmes) for $20 at the Vintage Video booth. Not quite as exciting as last year's
They Might Be Giants find, but still pretty cool. To my surprise, Mom wanted to watch it when we arrived back at my place with our Hero Burgers, but that wasn't the biggest shock of the evening. When my mom asked what we should watch next, I tentatively suggested that she should try watching at least one episode of
Stalky & Co. because it was set around the same time as
Dr Bell and Mr Doyle – The Dark Beginnings of Sherlock Holmes, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was friends with Rudyard Kipling, and the first episode ("An Unsavoury Interlude") had a murder...of sorts. Maybe she was just humouring me or she forgot that the mere mention of
Stalky & Co. usually results in a blank stare or an eye roll. Well, to my delight, she really seemed to enjoy the first episode. She laughed throughout and said afterwards, "We're watching the next episode, aren't we?" We ended up watching the next two episodes and then finished off the series the next morning. After all these YEARS, she
finally knows what the hell
Stalky & Co. is. *g*

Date: 2016-08-30 05:19 pm (UTC)I'm sorry you don't have something like the CNE in your part of Sweden. The CNE has been going on for 137 years, so it's really had time to build and develop. And the Exhibition grounds cover a lot of ground. There are various shows and events held in different buildings throughout the year.
