AO3 Invite Codes Up For Grabs

I think most of my flisties already have an AO3 account, but, because of the Tumblr exodus, AO3 has issued eight invite codes to people who have been members of AO3 for at least six months. I actually have nine invites -- possibly because I've been a member for a lot longer. *g* Anywaaaaaay, if there's anyone who's been thinking of creating an AO3 account, I'm happy to send you an invite. Just leave me a comment or send me a private message.

What’s the problem with Tumblr? I haven’t noticed anything.

Hi, crimsoncorundum! Apparently, you're no longer allowed to post adult content on Tumblr. AO3 was issuing invite codes for those Tumblr users who weren't already on AO3 and might need somewhere to archive their fic.

Thanks. That places me in a bit of a dilemma. Do I leave so I can boycot them because of their censorship? Or do I stay because personally I have never posted any adult content? I only have a photo blog and a link sharing blog there. Actually, I may have to give up the link sharing blog anyway, because of a new law that prohibits most link sharing. It’s a great media blog but I hate censorship. Either way big changes are coming to the internet, whether we like it or not. :(

That is a dilemma. I could understand why you might stay considering that you haven't posted any adult content yourself. However, it sucks to be somewhere that supports censorship. I seriously thought about leaving LJ when the possibility of Russian censorship came up. I ended up staying as LJ hasn't officially stated that adult content is banned. On a purely selfish level, I've invested a lot of time and effort in my posts over the years, and I'd really hate to leave, despite my AO3 back up.

I guess all you can do is go with your gut. I'm not on Tumblr myself, but I'd be tempted to stay if I wasn't sure what I wanted to do yet. Maybe you can look into the new Tumblr terms of agreement to see if that would help you make a decision.

Speaking of big changes to the internet, this latest AO3 News post might make you feel a bit better. :-)

Thanks for that link :). Something to be grateful for. It looks as if Tumblr shouldn’t be able to stop adult content either. I might still mainly use my personal (wordpress.org) homepage, but at least I feel I can trust Dreamwidth and AO3.
