Waaaaaaahhhh!!! I could have been taping Life on Mars for the past couple of weeks because it's being shown on Showcase! I could have taped an episode this afternoon if I'd thought to check the Showcase website sooner! I guess I'd convinced myself that Life on Mars couldn't possibly be showing in Canada on a channel that was included in my cable package. Idiot! Idiot! Idiot! Well, I guess I can console myself with the knowledge that I eventually did think to check and that I'll be able to catch at least some of the episodes. Hey, if I'm lucky, Showcase might even repeat the series from the beginning. Still, I've got to wait a whole week before it's on again! :-(

I swear my brain has been on a leave of absence all weekend. This morning, I started making a salmon pasta casserole and then realized that I'd managed to get all the ingredients except the pasta! Luckily, I hadn't gone very far and could stick the salmon in the fridge while I went to Dominion to hunt down a box of whole wheat rotini. Of course, Dominion didn't have whole wheat rotini because Dominion never has anything. I ended up hiking down to Mount Pleasant and hitting the Sobeys, which meant avoiding the homeless guy selling Outreach papers because I'd bought one off of him on Friday night and he'd asked me if I wanted to grab a coffee. However, I did get my whole wheat rotini, a package of salad greens (because Dominion was out of that too), and a box of my favourite brand of Wheat Thins (also unavailable at Dominion).

Uh...not sure why I felt the need to share all that. I'm probably still in panic mode about Life on Mars. Damn this (possibly temporary) John Simm obsession. It's not healthy -- not that any of my obsessions ever are. *g* Btw if any of you want to see an amazing series check out State of Play. The DVD was worth every single penny.

So now that school's out for summer, I have re-surfaced (hurray!) and will now try to comment on LJ posts!

Dude, Dominion totally sounds worthless for all your shopping needs! I don't think we have a Dominion in Hamilton...? Anyway, how did the salmon pasta turn out?

And no worries about TV obsessions! I am currently in a state of love with the TV show, Firefly. It has come and gone and with a movie version to boot, but I just managed to get around to watching my DVD boxed set, so now I am in love.

Have a good week!

Congratulations on surviving another year! It's great that you've re-surfaced! :-D

I think the problem with my Dominion is that it's pretty small (being inside a mall) but has a lot of customers because of its convenient location. Still...you'd think they'd order more supplies to keep up with the number of customers, but every week there's at least one or two items they don't have.

Anywaaaay, the salmon pasta casserole turned out really well, so I guess the trip to Sobeys was worth it. And, hey, it forced me to get some exercise, which is something I had hoped to work in yesterday.

Ah, yes. From what I've seen, Firefly is pretty deadly as far as obsessions go. *g* Well, it's good to know that I'm not the only one suffering from this condition.

Hope you have a great week too! Enjoy your much deserved break from school! :-)

I love Firefly. I dressed as a companion for Polaris sci fi convention last year.

This year (this coming weekend), the theme is vampires, so I'm going as that.

Firefly has a *huge* following of browncoats. It may not have been on for long; but it is well loved. I own the series and the movie. BTW, the DVD collection has some never aired episodes.

Oh, cool! Good for you! I think it's great that you dressed as a companion last year at Polaris and plan to go as a vampire this year! :-)

I have to admit that I never fell in love with Firefly. I mean, I enjoyed the series and the movie, but I was never a browncoat. Still, I can totally understand the appeal and think it's great that there is such a large following.

Aww... poor you! Mind you, I had to d/l every single episode of LoM. Which turned out to be a good thing in the end because Dutch tv a)aired it a rediculous timeslot: 11.40pm on Wednesdays and b) they cut scenes. D:

Haven't seen State of Play but thanks to your enthusiasm I'll put it on my list of possible buys. ;-) (I plan to get some older Who first)

It sucks that Dutch TV had it in such a bad timeslot and cut scenes. The Showcase timeslot isn't bad as it's 3:00 pm on Sunday. I also think they're pretty good at not cutting out scenes as they're known for broadcasting slightly more risque shows.

I think you might enjoy State of Play for Philip Glenister alone. He doesn't have a huge part, but it's interesting to compare his version of a detective in this series with the one he plays in Life on Mars. There's a clip featuring him on YouTube. I'll track down the link and give it to you. :-)

State of Play actually was on tv here not too long ago but I never watched it because it was all dubbed in german. *g*

No offence to the German language, but I think State of Play would lose something in the translation. It's too bad they didn't use subtitles instead.

Here's that Philip Glenister clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqUXs7inXyA&feature=related) I mentioned before. He's actually in a quite a few scenes, but he doesn't have as much screen time as John Simm, David Morrissey, Bill Nighy or Kelly MacDonald.

Thanks for the clip! And you're right, the Germans dubbing everything takes a lot of the fun away. Still, I can admire Mr. Glenister on Dutch tv in Cranford these days. A 19th century British drama with a lot of top notch actors. And subtitles.

Omigod! I didn't realize Philip Glenister was in Cranford, but I remember him now! I loved his character! It was an excellent role for him!

You are not an idiot. Showcase just didn't market it well enough to reach you. Blame Showcase.

You know what? You're right: I should blame Showcase! Why didn't they market it better? I see other Showcase shows advertized, but I never saw anything about Life on Mars. Of course, it would probably help if I tuned into Showcase once in a while and, well, watched more TV in general. *g*

Maybe because they're trying to get an US version of LoM off the ground? Although it's not by Showcase but some other station. (and I should know which station but it escapes me at the moment)

It could be Showtime. It seems like the kind of project they might take on.

From Wikipedia:

Life on Mars is an American version of the BBC series of the same name. It was picked up by ABC on May 13, 2008 and is produced by Twentieth Century Fox Television and ABC Studios.

The series will be aired on ABC Thursdays at 10pm EST in the fall.[4] It will also air on Global in Canada.[5] The premiere dates in other parts of the world are not yet announced.

Ah, that answers that question. And somehow I'm not surprised that Global is carrying the show. As I've heard the American version is total crap, I wasn't planning on watching it.

Can't say I've seen this series, but I can understand why you'd be miffed if you missed an ep. Or three. The wonders of cable down here include watching reruns again and again and again and ..... The number of times they've had Buffy on!

Sorry about your salad, but at least you got some extra stuff you needed. :)

I'm happy to say that I just got a chance to see my first episode and loved it! :-) I also finally managed to find a good site for downloading shows, so I'll be able to watch all the episodes now! :-D

Here's a Life on Mars trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhffuKpgVyM&NR=1) if you're interested.

I'm sorry you're stuck in re-run hell because of Aussie cable. I know there are some shows here that seem to be repeated again and again and again.

Sorry about your salad, but at least you got some extra stuff you needed. :)

Thankfully, the meal worked out in the end. And, as you say, I got some extra stuff I needed. :-)
