On the second day of my boycott, I've woken up, showered and shaved my legs, done some writing, washed some dishes, had lunch, and finally watched the eighth episode of Life on Mars that I taped almost a week ago. If it wasn't raining, I'd have gone grocery shopping too.

I'm ashamed to confess that I caught about 5 to 10 seconds of the opening ceremonies last night when I tuned in for Torchwood because I accidentally turned on CBC instead of SPACE. Uh, I'm used to watching Doctor Who and Torchwood on CBC -- when CBC can be bothered to broadcast either show. Anyway, I think I managed to change the channel before completely destroying my principles. I figure I'm probably going to catch clips from the Olympics on the news, so it's not something I can completely avoid. I know the subject is going to come up later today because I'm meeting up with some of my high school friends and one of them is really excited about the Olympics. She's from Hong Kong and has actually taken time off work in order to watch it. In fact, she seemed reluctant to meet up today as it would mean she'd have to tape the Olympics instead of watching it. For some reason, I haven't told her about the boycott. *g*

I'm not boycotting the OG but I'm not 24/7 in front of the screen either. The dutch athletes are rather hypocrit, imo. Several started complaining about the situation in Tibet this year but not of one of them is boycotting the games because "the OG are a once in a lifetime opportunity". And I wonder how many people will protest in 2014 when the winter games are held in Russia. So... I'm not sure what to think of it all.

Yeah, it's a rather confusing and complex issue. Or, should I say, issues? It's difficult to know where to draw the line. I've heard about some people refusing to buy anything made in China, which really makes it hard to buy anything...at all! *g*

I do feel sorry for the athletes who have been caught up in all this. I don't know if I could give up something I'd worked years to achieve because I disagree with Chinese politics. I mean, it's easy enough for me to announce that I'm boycotting the Olympics because I'm not actually sacrificing anything. With the athletes, it's an entirely different story.

It will be interesting to see if people protest the 2014 Olympic Games. I guess will have to wait and see...

These are great icons! Thanks for sharing the link! :-) I was wondering if anyone else on LJ was boycotting the Olympics, so I appreciate the heads up.
