Olympic Boycott: Day Eleven

Today, instead of watching the Olympics, I went to work, which probably isn't a huge surprise. I also watched the very last episode of Inspector Lynley, which I taped last night. Considering that the story was based on the real-life case of Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka, I'm thinking it's probably a good thing that they've decided not to make any more episodes. I have to admit that I'm kind of curious about how other Mystery viewers in Southern Ontario reacted because I was seriously tempted to turn it off. Anywaaaaaaay, after getting through Lynley, I managed to do some more cleaning. Thank Herne for podfic. I don't know what I'd do without it.

Oh! Apparently Canada bagged two silver medals. I learned that little tidbit on MSN.

We bagged some medals too the past few days but overall the press is rather negative about the Dutch' results at the Olympics - as if getting bronze or silver isn't great. :(

I don't really understand that attitude. I would have thought that any medal would be a good thing, even if it isn't gold. As my exposure to the Canadian Olympic coverage has been extremely limited, I'm not sure what the Canadian media is saying about our medals. From what I gather, most people were at least happy about the first couple of medals, which isn't surprising considering that Canada hadn't earned anything for at least the first week of the Olympics. *g*

Yeah, it's pretty pathetic how the press deals with it and several of the coaches and a press guy of the dutch football team were clearly not amused about it. I mean, when the men's hockey team played 2-2 to Australia the first question the coach had to answer was "Just escaped?" to which he justly replied that it wasn't a narrow escape - his team had played a great match but so had the Australians. "You seem to think that if we don't win with a 6 points difference we've played a bad match but that is certainly not the case!"

But it has its funny moments too. Not all sports are prominently covered on tv so now commentators have to report on "unusal" sports because suddenly there are Dutch athletes popping up in waterpolo or synchronized swimming. One commentator was corrected by a coach because he was using football terms when talking about waterpolo - which was pretty funny. *g*
