I just skipped the latest Social Committee event at work because it had an Olympic theme. I felt like I'd be a bit of a hypocrite if I went considering that I'm boycotting the Olympics. As I'm already behind with my work, and had to waste half an hour this morning at a "town hall meeting" in which the company CEO basically delivered a lecture on how poorly we were performing, I can live with missing this event.

Last I heard, Canada had 13 medals. I have no idea what the latest ones are for.

Hurdles, diving, trampoline, and Simon Whitfield.

If it makes you feel even more virtuous, I've hit the wall of Olympic-related sleep deprivation and woke up this morning with the sort of headache that STABS into your EYE!! So you're sparing yourself literal pain, my friend...

Thanks. I still wouldn't know what the medals were for if you hadn't left a comment. :-)

That would be a migraine and I'm actually able to get those without watching the Olympics. *g* I hope your head has recovered now. Despite the boycott, I'm a bit sleep-deprieved myself. I've been averaging about 5 & 1/2 to 6 hours of sleep a night since Sunday. I've really got to try to get at least 7 hours tonight.

Is that really a migraine? Huh. For some reason I thought migraines had to involve sensitivity to light, which I never get. (ie stabbing pain just as stabby in the dark). So here I've been getting migraines all along and never knew it! What would I do without you, Rusty?

(oh, and we got showjumping gold and diving silver today.)

If it makes you feel any better, I didn't realize I was suffering from migraines myself until my aunt (who suffers from really bad ones herself) asked me to describe my symptoms and then pointed out that my sinus headaches were actually migraines. Migraines are kind of confusing because they can involve various triggers and symptoms. I know a couple of people who get auras before their migraines, but I've never had that myself. There are also people who will suffer from a migraine for three or four days running. The longest I usually have one is two days and, even then, it's not severe. At its worse it will involve a really sharp stabbing sensation behind one eye (sometimes switching to the other eye if it's a two-day deal) and nausea. I get a migraine with every single period, though I have other triggers too, like stress, certain foods, eye strain, etc. If you'd like to learn more, Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Migraine) has some good information on the subject.

Thanks for the latest medal update. It's great that Canada is doing so well. :-)

As GB is having the best Olympics since goodness knows when and is only being beaten by China and the USA it's pretty hard to avoid it here...

I was actually wondering how GB was faring at the Olympics, so it's nice to know that they're doing so well. Canada usually does a lot better at the Winter Olympics than the Summer Olympics, so I don't think 13 is too shabby for us. Still...it's hardly third place, is it? ;-)

I think you're on the right track boycotting the Olympics. I have been sucked into the Olympic vortex and therefore find myself sitting in front of the tube for *hours* watching one event after another regardless of the event.... Help!

If it makes you feel any better, I haven't really been accomplishing much while not watching the Olympics. This week, my big goal seems to be cleaning. Woo hoo. *g*

I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures from Italy! I'll be sure to check out the links you sent me soon!
