I took the day off, but have I done anything with it? No, not really. Sure, I managed to leave my apartment long enough to do some groceries. I even called my mom and washed some dishes. But other than that? Well, other than that, I spent a couple of hours revamping my John Simm icon. Oh, I could have attempted to write or go through the story I'm supposed to be editing for the RoS Fanfic Archive, but apparently that would have required more brain power than I'm currently generating. I did have fun playing with John Simm screencaps in Paint Shop Pro. I'm no designer, but I think they look pretty good. They're certainly an improvement on what I had before and I think the icon is a bit more stylish:

I decided to have another go at the icon after having a brief discussion about it with [livejournal.com profile] radiogaga80 on her LJ. Well, it wasn't so much a discussion about revamping my John Simm icon as her noticing that I had one and me pointing out that it was a rush job and could definitely be improved on. Oooooh...I could totally pin the blame on [livejournal.com profile] radiogaga80 for this. I mean, I'm sure the decision to work on the icon had nothing to do with re-watching Human Traffic last night or taking a Benylin this morning. *g*

Maybe I'll actually get something done in the next three days. I'll be at my parents' place tomorrow, but I'm hoping if I go to Edwards Gardens on Sunday I might do something radical, like write. I just have to avoid any families of Canada Geese this time. Oh, and ducks. They can be pretty distracting too.

Oh sure... blame the one person who can't go after you! :P Truth told, my day wasn't much better as I spent most of it designing a new layout for my LJ. *g*

Yeah, but it's much more fun blaming someone other than yourself. Besides, as you say, you can't come after me -- not unless you're willing to cross an ocean to do it. *g* Anywaaaay, I think designing a new layout for your LJ is more productive than designing one icon. Well, at least when I'm the designer.

Hey, I just realized that you got that quote for your Doctor Who icon from Life on Mars Groovy-do! :-) Uh...I know you created the icon a while back, but I only started watching Life on Mars about seven weeks ago. *g*

Well... designing the layout was a complete failure but at least I ended up with a neat header. :) As for the icon... I'm usually rubbish with text on icons but with this one I knew what to put on it right away. :)

(And I may not be willing to cross an ocean to go after you - I DO know where you live, missy!)

A new header isn't a bad thing. :-) I'm hopelessly behind with my flist (again), but I should be able to see your new header this morning before I head off to my parents'. Your Doctor Who "Playstation Scores" icon is one of my favourites. However, I think you've come up with others that have had great text. Still, I know what you mean about it being a challenge to come up with the right thing to say sometimes.

(And I may not be willing to cross an ocean to go after you - I DO know where you live, missy!)

This is true. Uh...next time I'll make someone else the scapegoat. *g*

Laborious Weekend

I give you permission to have a totally unproductive weekend. At the very least, make sure you don't labour on Labour Day.

Ah, thank you! I did manage to get some editing done last night, and quite a bit of writing done at Edwards Gardens this afternoon, so I'm happy about that. I'm guessing the most labourious thing I'll do on Labour Day is some dishes. *g*

Hope you have a great Labour Day yourself! Enjoy the rest of the long weekend! :-)

I have been there! Hours and hours and hours. You stare at the clock and are like, "that much time is gone!??!!!!!". I always end up with about 15 different versions of the same icon too. Especially this one.
Congrats on some successful time wasting ;)

God, I KNOW! I can't believe how quickly time disappears, especially if you're engrossed in a project. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one that ends up with multiple versions of the same icon. However, given the quality of your Dean icon, the previous versions were definitely worth it! :-)

*blushes* You always say the nicest things. Thanks!
I made 10 in total. I always end up playing with layers, and I'll be scrolling through them and like a few different ones, so I have to save them to help me choose, then I'll change the layer colour and it'll start all over again.
And don't even start on some of the stuff the program can do just to make stuff look cool.

Wow. You're a lot more dedicated than I am. I don't think my John Simm icon has more than three or four layers in any one part. I've worked with more layers in the past, but not to the same level as you. I really admire your dedication. And, hey, using the program applications that make things look cool is never a bad thing. It's, uh, cool. *g*

Sorry, but I meant about 10 different versions of that particular icon. I also use about 3-5 layers on average.
Anymore than that and I'd be superconfused ;).
I've made a post to show you what I mean - http://tazzles.livejournal.com/98190.html

No apologies necessary. I'm a bit challenged in the brains department today. In fact, I think my brains decided to stay in bed this morning when the rest of me woke up. *g* In any case, I don't think there's anything wrong with having 10 different versions of an icon. I've had multiple versions of icons myself, though often it's been during the WIP stage. Still, I think it's a good practice to create more than one. By reading your very helpful post, I could see the evolution of your Jensen icon by studying all the versions you created. It was pretty cool, actually. Thanks for putting that together. :-)
