I'm Not Just Looking Old...I'm Looking *OLDER*!

I emerged from a washroom stall this afternoon (because like most people I have a bladder) to see this co-worker who usually gives me the cold shoulder. I ignored her as usual and proceeded to wash my hands. But then she actually spoke to me. She asked, “Did you used to work for [Insert legal publisher here]?” I said “Yes” because I had. It turns out that she worked at [Insert legal publisher here] in the early 90s and thought I had too. As I’m pretty dense, I couldn’t figure out why that seemed strange at first. I simply said that I had been at [Insert legal publisher here] in 1999/2000, at which point she realized that we couldn’t have been at [Insert legal publisher here] at the same time because she had left [Insert legal publisher here] by then. I observed that I “must have one of those faces” (whatever that means), and she commented that a lot of people at [Insert current employer] worked at [Insert legal publisher here], which is true. Then we went our separate ways. Anyway, to make a long story slightly shorter, I realized that I couldn't have been working at [Insert legal publisher here] in the early 90s because in the early 90s (the very early 90s at least) I was still in high school!

Now why did she think that I worked with her at [Insert legal publisher here] in the early 90s? Could it because I'm...looking older? With my recent dieting, my face does look thinner. Apparently, the face is one of the first places where you notice weight loss, which has definitely been true in my case. Unfortunately, however, dieting has apparently aged me as well. I mean, fatter people often do look younger. I always figured it was compensation for not being thin. In any case, it looks like I'll be paying the price as well. It won’t be “Hey, you lost weight!” but “Hey, did you get older?” So I guess it’s a toss up between being thinner and looking older, or fat and looking younger but possibly also dying younger (due to possible heart disease). It seems I just can’t win. However, if I have my choice, I think I’ll go with thinner and older because at least I might live long enough to grow into my older age.

Hee, although I'm glad you choose life over vanity, I'm pretty sure she was just an idiot. You don't look ten years older than you are. Not unless you changed dramatically from the last time I saw you. But, you know, now I'm going to have to pretend not to recognize you the next time we see each other? I mean I just have to. I think it's a rule.

Ahhhh! Thanks for saying that I don't look ten years older than I am! Although I'm choosing life over vanity, my vanity still likes to be stroked from time to time. *g*

Umm...you don't have to pretend not to recognize me next time we see each other, though it could be pretty amusing...

You: Hey, you kinda look like a friend of mine. Do you have a younger sister or cousin by any chance? She'd be, oh, at least ten years younger than you.

Me: I hate you. I really really hate you. I can no longer stand to be in your annoyingly youthful presence, you annoyingly youthful person, you.

Or maybe not. Of course, in real life (as opposed to cyber melodrama), I'd probably either laugh, stand there with my mouth open or say, "I knew it! I knew I was looking older! GAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!"

I have downloaded the commentary for Duet! The writer, director and David H.! Have you watched Treed Murray yet? I taped it, but haven't actually seen it. Are you still watching Bones? Great episode this week. I wasn't that thrilled with Supernatural, although I thought it rocked last week. Something about having the father present sort of disturbed the whole brother vibe. Are you even watching Supernatural?

You downloaded the commentary for Duet?!!! Oh, that's so cool!!! I'm totally jealous! We have to watch it next time I'm at your place! I haven't watched Treed Murray yet, but I taped it. Hopefully I'll get around to it some time this week. I'm still watching Bones, though I still have to watch the last episode. Actually, I'm behind with pretty much all my shows. I taped everything this week, so I must have at least 5 or 6 hours worth of TV to catch up with. The one show that I have been watching is Traders because each night I need to decide whether there's enough Jansky material for me to keep an episode.

I don't watch Supernatural, though there have been times when I've been tempted. Maybe I'll get into it during summer re-runs. I'm not surprised that you're into it given the whole brother thing. I saw a commercial for the dad episode and I can see how that would disturb the whole brother vibe.
