Up till now, I decided not to bore people with another LJ entry about my identity theft issues. This is mostly because I'm lazy and have been possessed by Lester plot bunnies from hell. However, for anyone keeping track (besides me), my identity theft issues took a turn for the worse when I discovered last Friday that TD Bank had frozen my account. After visiting the bank on Saturday morning, I thought the problem had been fixed, but then I discovered on Sunday morning that my account was still frozen when I tried to check it online. This meant that I had to go grocery shopping with my credit card (a habit I've been trying to avoid) and only having about $10 in cash. You see, I was sent a letter in which TD bank demanded that I transfer $373 to my account immediately. I figured they would just take that amount out of my account on Wednesday (pay day), which is exactly what they did. However, they didn't think it was necessary to give me access to my account (e.g. my own frickin' money). Fortunately, I was able to get a bank teller to unfreeze my account tonight, which means I can buy my weekly transit pass tomorrow, see Harry Potter with some friends on Saturday, and avoid begging Mommy and Daddy for cash.

Of course, there's still the issue of the money TD did take. They'd better be reimbursing the full amount when the fraud claim has been processed or they'll be dealing with a pissed off customer (and one with a very bad temper at that) and not just someone who is annoyed at having to pay three separate visits to the bank. As it is, I've got even less money to pay my bills tonight. I certainly won't be giving those TD bastards more than the minimum payment on my TD Visa card as I think they've taken more than enough of my money this month, thank you very much.

I have to say how nice it is to be treated like a criminal when I'm supposed to be the victim. Fun times.

Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] grondfic! :-) I'm sure it will get sorted out somehow. At least I have access to my account again, so that's progress. *g*

I had my Scotia Bank account "frozen" several times, without being informed which is why my bank is BMO now. Okay, they actually closed my account by accident, but bent over backwards and apologized profusely over the whole thing, where as Scotia Bank just gave me attitude.

Okay, having your account "frozen" several times seriously sucks. I'm glad your banking experience has improved with BMO. I mean, they may have made a mistake that one time, but at least they were willing to take responsibility and apologize. That beats out attitude in my book any day.

Ugh, how horrible! TD's behaviour sucks!!! [Then again, banks are bastards in general.] I hope you get back all the money the bank stole from you very soon!

And actually, I think I've been watching/reading too many post-apocalyptic stories lately, because I'm feeling rather uncomfortable that nearly all my material wealth is 'on paper' or digitized in an 'account'. Banks seem to be rather unstable institutions these days. But, what's the alternative -- stuff it under the mattress? LOL

Yeah, I can't say I'm very pleased with TD at the moment. I'm hoping I will get my money back soon. I'll certainly be monitoring the situation!

Being exposed to too many post-apocalpytic stories is probably enough to make you paranoid about everything and not just banks. *g* Well, as you say, what else can we do? Stuffing your money under the mattress really isn't a viable option anymore...

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] alysscarlet! :-) I'm sure everything will get sorted out eventually. At least I can access my account again, which was my main cause for panic. *g*

Document absolutely everything and demand compensation.

If they made a mistake you just ask the manager what fee you would have to pay if you made the mistake. The branch managers have a fund from which they can make such payments. It won't be much (just whatever you would have had to pay if the tables had been reversed); but you will get something out of it. Just appear rational and determined.

Thanks for the great advice, [livejournal.com profile] njc2007! I'm pretty dense when it comes to most financial matters, so this is much appreciated! :-) I'll try to appear rational and determined and not lose my cool. I find I do best if I stay calm and keep my temper in check, though that's sometimes easier said than done. *g*

Yeah, I had hoped it was all behind me as well: I should have known it wouldn't be that simple. *g* Well, I'm sure the situation will be resolved soon. At least I can access my account again, which is a huge relief. :-)

That's terrible. Why did they take your money? This is all very confusing.
I can only hope that you manage to get it sorted out to your satisfaction.

BTW, how was Harry? I'm seeing it this Sunday night. Not sure if I should be excited or not after the last one.

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] tazzles. I'm assuming they took the money to cover the amount that was stolen from me. Fortunately, they appear to have reimbursed me now -- unless some other mysterious benefactor has added almost $400 to my account. *g*

I thought the latest Harry Potter movie was wonderful! However, I really enjoyed the last film (which still seems strange as the fifth book is my least favourite), so maybe I'm not the best person to ask. I know it has been receiving really good reviews and some critics are saying it's the best Harry Potter film yet.

It's not that I didn't like the fifth movie, I just felt that all it did was summarise the book. Which is what they're all doing, obviously, but the rest have managed to have other parts of the story to them, whereas the fifth seemed to go from major plot point A to major plot point B etc with no deviations, unlike the others.

However, looking at my bookcase, the fifth is the largest book by far. So, it would've been hard to add those little things in I feel they missed.

But, really, any movie with Gary Oldman and Jason Isaacs in it is worth watching just for that! ;)

I am looking forward to the last two movies though. I had to read them both again to remind me what exactly happens. ;) Such a hardship!
