Spam Review

I just received a spam review at Wraithbait for Thankless. It was really bizarre because it looked like a regular review at first, with the poster in question saying that he/she thought my story was well-written, etc. But then I read the second sentence and discovered that it contained a link for a British loans company. Very strange. I deleted it there and then, though I'm kind of wishing I'd kept it now for its amusement value.

I've actually had to return to edit this post because I initially thought that this Wraithbait spam review was my very first spam review. Then I remembered that I'd received two spam reviews for In the Family Way for some kind of drug or alcohol intervention program. I'm not sure how I forgot about that. I must be getting old or doing a better job of blocking out In the Family Way than I realized -- though I have gone back to start re-reading the story in the event that I eventually get around to writing the final installment. I do plan to start working on it soon, though it's not something I'm looking forward to. I'm hoping that if I have my crazy Primeval crack!fic to work on as well, I can use that as a kind of reward system for getting any work done on In the Family Way. Knowing me, I'll consider "any work" to be a sentence or paragraph and give myself permission to write an entire scene of the Primeval crack!fic in return. *g*

I had someone spamming my LJ for awhile. Of course I deleted the comments immediately. I don't get the whole spam thing. Don't they realize it's going to just get deleted? *scratches head in bewilderment*

I'm sorry you had someone spamming your LJ. I remembered after my break that my first taste of spam reviews was actually on LJ as well and have edited my entry accordingly. Anywaaaaay, I don't get the whole spam thing either considering that most spams are deleted. Maybe the spammer hopes that someone will check out the material in question before the LJ owner or writer gets around to deleting the spam.

Spammers suck. Always.

Wish I could be more helpful but it's too darn hot here. Sorry! ;-)

It's so sweet of you to want to help, [livejournal.com profile] radiogaga80, but I think everything that can be done (e.g. deleting the spam) has been done. I'm sorry it's so hot in Holland. :-( If it's any consolation, Toronto will be going through a heatwave starting tomorrow. On Sunday, it's apparently going to feel like 40 C with the humidex.

oh something did come to mind - if the spammer has an lj account, you can ban them: http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=84

:)

(it rained and thundered a lot last night - temperatures have dropped :) )

Oh, that's cool! If I have another encounter with a spammer on LJ, I'll be sure to remember that! :-)

I'm glad your temperatures have dropped. We're expecting a thunderstorm here any time, though temperatures are supposed to shoot back up after that.

*Snickers* Sometimes spamming is funny. Maybe some correlation between British Loans and people who write fanfic we are currently unaware of...

But, apparently spamming works, it's a lucrative business and those spammers get paid quite well.

BTW: I always want to respond to the SPAMs I get regarding saving money and using Cdn pharmacies, you know, since I use Cdn pharmacies all the time.

Yeah, I also wondered what the correlation might be between fic (specifically my story) and British loan agencies. At least with the spam for "In the Family Way," the spammer actually commented on a reference I made to drugs in the first installment when spamming, so I could understand the correlation there.

I guess spamming must be pretty lucrative or there wouldn't be so many spammers around.

LOL! I can understand the temptation given your frequent use of Canadian pharmacies.
