Bad Morning
Dec. 21st, 2009 11:34 amThe day hasn't started off well. Despite doing my utmost to leave earlier and be on time for work, I was almost 20 minutes late. This was due to a massive subway delay. As the train kept being asked to remain at each station for about 10 minutes or more by Transit Control, I hopped out at Sheppard and took another train to Don Mills. Then I took the 25D Don Mills bus the rest of the way to work. Although I was probably lucky not to arrive any later than I did, I became even more grumpy when I walked into my cubicle and discovered that my chair was missing. The mystery was quickly solved as two co-workers were having a pow-wow in the other row and had borrowed the chair. They apologized and quickly returned it.
After managing to sit down and log on to my computer, I figured that things should go a little more smoothly. However, I discovered that the Alberta database didn't want to play when I tried doing some parallel work. After repeated attempts to get it to work, I decided to leave it alone until it decided to grow up. During one of my negotiation sessions with the Alberta database, I decided to use the washroom and was reminded about how I had bashed the toes on my left foot yesterday when I started walking in my granny boots. You would think my purple baby toe would have been a hint that wearing granny boots would not be a good idea. I changed back into my winter boots as soon as I returned to my cubicle.
Fate: Well, you didn't think I would make your last day of work in 2009 easy, did you? Ha ha hah! Not on my watch, bitch.
Oh, well. On a brighter note, I was able to discuss "The Waters of Mars" with a co-worker who's also into Doctor Who and I'm having dinner with

Date: 2009-12-21 06:25 pm (UTC)I find Monday mornings are like one long, repressed memory bubbling to the surface. "Oh shit, I have a job. Double shit, I have that job."
Just think, after today, you've got a couple weeks to repress the memory of work.
P.S.: I never did understand why Garfield's catchphrase was "I hate Mondays". He was a cat. He didn't have a day job to go to. (Neither did his cartoonist. A job, certainly but not a Monday to Friday, office hours job.)

Date: 2009-12-22 04:35 am (UTC)*Shudder* I hate shuttle buses. I usually do anything I possibly can to avoid them. I'm sorry you had to endure that. I got off really easy in comparison!

For me, it depends on the Monday. Sometimes I can remain in my happy weekend place for almost the entire day before reality hits. Often it's on Tuesday when I have the "Oh shit, I have a job. Double shit, I have that job" moment. Of course, those oblivious Mondays only happen when the TTC doesn't go to pieces and I'm not having a bad day. *g*

This is true. And the memory repression has officially started. *g*

Hey, you're right! I never thought of that! Even if Garfield had been a working cat (e.g. a mouser on a farm), Mondays shouldn't have stood out for him. I mean, they'd be the same as any other day, really. Now, if Jim wasn't around to feed him on Mondays then that would be a different story. ;-)

Date: 2009-12-22 04:48 am (UTC)I can see why you're annoyed about me getting off work two days before you. Would it help if I pointed out that you're at least six hours ahead of me? That means it's actually less than two days...I think...Oh, hey! A big pot of M&Ms! Focus on the M&Ms! Chocolate can make almost anything look better! *g*

Oh, no! Don't say that! I was just teasing you,

I hope you enjoy your dinner and your holiday.

Date: 2009-12-22 04:56 am (UTC)Yes, delays like that have a way of really putting a damper on your day. As it is, people are already pissed off at the TTC because they're raising fares once again. Yes, we'll get to pay even more for the same crappy service. *g*
Sore baby toes are sore indeed. They seem to hurt more than any of the others.
You've got that right. Well, actually, the two toes beside the baby toe are also pretty sore. However, it's the baby toe that got bruised, so maybe it took the brunt of the bash. In any case, they don't seem as sore as yesterday, so I'm sure they'll be back to normal soon.
I hope you enjoy your dinner and your holiday.
Thanks,

Date: 2009-12-22 06:57 am (UTC)Yesterday was absolutely horrible for me. (Stop reading here, if you like, major rant ahead.)
I woke up at 6 and couldn't go back to sleep. I should have been able to sleep until ten but of course I couldn't. There was this exam I had to go to in another town. To get there I had to go by train and change trains in the middle. Well, going there was ok, but since I always try to be such a good girl, I decided to take the last train back, one that left forty minutes after the exam ended (not that we have to stay that long if we're already finished).
Guess what? I didn't need to stay the whole time, I was done after an hour and a half. To save money I had bought a ticket that I couldn't rebook. So when I got to the station, I asked if I could anyway and a real prat of a rail employee told me I could always buy a new ticket, without even looking at me.
Then I waited for nearly four hours, the last hour or so for a train that was delayed and the time of arrival kept getting updated, mainly online (I don't have one of those phones so I had to keep calling home to my sister). Getting on a train that was late made me miss the connecting train, and the one after that because hey, holding a train for about a whole minute is way too much trouble for them, apparently.
That meant going on a long detour to the coast, where we were supposed to rebook our tickets, because they had forgotten that here in Sweden we get snow every year. This being such a tropical paradise, of course that's a natural mistake. NOT!
Someone must have complained, because later the guy came on the loudspeaker sounding a lot more sympathetic, saying we needn't bother about the rebooking, and just go on to the connecting train. (It might have something to do with the fact that it was now close to 10 pm and customer service closed at 8 pm, but who knows?) All this was about half an hour after I should have been home.
So I got on the last train, without a valid ticket, but apparently someone had informed our conductor (or train host as they're called now, apparently) that there would be victims of the snow delay on her train, so she basically just checked I had some kind of ticket and that was it. Back again around 11.30 pm. Then a lovely brisk walk in the snow, on slippery streets for a very late dinner.
On the bright side, I won't have to study any more this year. It would be even better if I pass, but I won't find out for at least three weeks so I'll just focus on getting through the days without studying and worrying (about the exam anyway).
Sorry about the rant, but just ignore it if you want. :) I hope your toes feel better soon. And I'm glad you had a nice dinner. Have a great holiday!

Date: 2009-12-22 09:47 pm (UTC)I'm glad you made it home safely in the end. At least you won't have to study for the rest of the year. I hope you do pass your exam. I know it's hard, but try not to worry about it and enjoy the holidays.
Thanks for your sympathy about my toes. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas as well! :-)

Last day? Wow! My last day of work for the year will be...wait for it...December 31. At least it ends at 1pm instead of 6pm. I'm giving my employee time off to be with his grandkids. Business ownership has its

Enjoy your freedom.
Thank you very much! I'm sure I will! I've certainly been enjoying it so far! :-)

OUCH! That's horrible! :-( Well, as far as I know, I think it's just bruising. I'll get my mom (the ex-nurse) to take a look at my purple baby toe tomorrow and get her opinion.

Date: 2009-12-22 08:02 pm (UTC)We got snow-again. Which normally is a good thing as I love it and we never get any. But the gritters hadn't been out. So we had rain and then snow and guess what-the roads were like ice. It took me and my mum 4 hours to go 6 miles. We were xmas shopping and got stuck in all the traffic getting home at 8pm!
I was so fuming-the roads around towns all over Berkshire and Hampshire were gridlocked. People were skidding down the hills and having to be pushed up. I have a little 4x4 so I was lucy and got up all the hills when the traffic moved. I tried 4 different routes to get to my house-all gridlocked.
I skidded down one hill, praying I wouldn't hit anything. In a town near here, over 2000 people abandoned their cars. People were stranded everywhere. My dad and Bro both had to leave their cars in town and walk. I would have done the same but had mum and she can't walk in the snow/ice.
I was so mad when I got home. We had less than 1 inch of snow ffs!!! The council and Governmental officials are all on the news today saying it was unprecedented and they had gritted but it got 'washed away' What a total crock!
I should copy and paste this for my journal instead of ranting on yours haha. I'm sorry you had a shit last day-I'm always pissed off when people nick my chair as well (ahd then change all the settings on it!.
Have a great 2 weeks off though :O)
