I was beginning to wonder if it would ever happen, but I think I finally finished Dogsbody. Well, the rough draft of what will be the final installment, anyway. And when I say "rough," I mean it. In fact, I keep staring at the final page and wondering how to re-write it and whether I should add more. However, the entire story is essentially complete. Now I just have to type out the last five scenes, do some serious revision, and then inflict the whole mess on my poor beta. *g*
To celebrate this not-so-momentous occasion, I thought I'd post this lovely vid. I'd almost forgotten about it until the subject of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home came up yesterday in a comment thread. Anyway, this vid seemed strangely appropriate...
Ironically, it's John Simm's birthday today! I won't say which one, though it's certainly a milestone as well! :-)

Date: 2010-07-11 04:02 pm (UTC)LOLOLOLOL!!! Oh, that would have been priceless! If John Simm ever does any more work for Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, he'll have to try to get Philip Glenister on board! *g*
It's a lovely vid though - and a big congrats on completing that fic even though it's not yet finished. :)
LOL! Yeah, I know. What I really should have done was posted a self-congratulatory entry after the final draft was done. *g* Still, most of the work is behind me, including the hardest part of the writing process...I think.

Oh, thank you! These icons are fantastic! :-) I especially like the ones revolving around my favourite Doctor, though it was great to see icons from Sarah Jane Adventures, Absolutely Fabulous, and Deathly Hollows aussi!

Date: 2010-07-12 12:45 am (UTC)Hey,
You're certainly finishing on a high note with Dogsbody!
I actually thought people might think the opposite as this story seems so self-indulgent. *g* However, I've been surprisingly pleased by how it's turned out and it received a much warmer reception than I was expecting. So, yes, I suppose I am going out on a high note! :-)
Speaking of which, I noticed that In the Family Way has gotten a pile o' hits at AOOO! That's awesome!
Holy crap! When you said it got a "pile o' hits," I thought maybe there had been 20 or 30 new readers. However, I'd say it's gone up by at least 150 since the last time I checked! I'm pretty sure it hadn't even hit the 200 mark and now it has 330 hits! That's freakin' fantastic...and kind of scary! *g*

Well, I hope you'll like it. You'll probably be one of the first people I'd show it to. :-)
I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to write yet. I have a couple of ideas, but I need to do some research first to see if what I'd like to write is in any way plausible. *g*

Particularly considering SGA is not as active as it once was. In your case, I'd say crack is where it's at, baby! Not that there isn't a fair bit of angst in both stories, but the more obviously humourous ones seem to really hit. It'll be interesting to see how Dogsbody does at AOOO. Something to think about when planning your first original work maybe.
Awesome dude! At least 330 people read your story! I can see how that would be both fantastic and scary!

Date: 2010-07-12 04:54 pm (UTC)Aaarrrggghhh! I hate when that happens! In fact, I've become so paranoid that I'll often copy my comments (especially the long ones) in case LJ is feeling a bit peckish. *g*

I thought about it afterwards and I think that 330 probably isn't a very accurate number. Considering the length of the story, readers may have made multiple visits in order to finish reading it. And, of course, there's always the possibility that some people just took a quick look and then left. Still, even if 330 isn't an accurate number, I think it's safe to say that it must represent a fairly high number of readers. And, yes, that's pretty cool considering that the fandom isn't as active as before.

I know what you mean. :-) And, as you say, crack does seem to be where it's at...baby. *g* There is some angst in both stories, but I'd say the humour shines through more. To be honest, I don't think I'm capable of writing straight angst. Humour seems to work its way into just about everything I write.
It'll be interesting to see how Dogsbody does at AOOO.
I don't think it will get anywhere near the number of hits that In the Family Way has earned because Primeval isn't as big a fandom as SGA and Danny/Lester isn't a very popular pairing. I'm also not sure if that many Primeval fans visit AOOO. However, I think it might do better than my previous Primeval stories, so it will be interesting to see how many hits it ends up receiving.

Actually, the one idea I've been toying with does have a definite air of crack about it. I won't say what the idea is right now because it's going to sound completely ridiculous and I'd feel better if I could do some research, etc. before sharing any details. However, I'm sure I'll bore you with the idea (if I pursue it) eventually. *g*

Date: 2010-07-12 05:01 pm (UTC)Yes, I've spent a really long time working on the thing and I did have moments when I was afraid I wouldn't be able to finish it. However, I knew that if I could get through In the Family Way (which is more than double the size of this fic), I could get through anything. *g*
Good luck with the original writing. :)
Thank you! I'm pretty nervous (but excited) about it. :-)
I loved the video!
It's very sweet, isn't it? And I think parts of it are really funny too. Of course, I'm a bit biased as a John Simm fan, but I think the video turned out really well. :-)

Date: 2010-07-12 07:21 pm (UTC)Thanks,
It's great that In the Family Way got so many hits. I'm sure Dogsbody will also get lots.
Dogsbody isn't likely to get as many hits as In the Family Way, as Primeval is a smaller fandom than SGA. However, I'd be happy if it got more hits than my two previous Primeval stories. *g*
Good luck with your original writing.
Thank you! I'm hoping it works out!

I'm glad you enjoyed the vid. John Simms does seem to take on a lot of darker roles, though I've seen him do a bit of comedy as well. He had a cameo in the first episode of Spaced and appeared in a Steve Coogan sketch. Oh, and last year he appeared on stage in an Armstrong & Miller RAF skit for charity.
