For My Halloween Viewing Pleasure
Oct. 23rd, 2010 01:04 amFor the past few years, I've found myself popping in certain DVDs to celebrate Halloween. As I've kicked off the viewing a bit early (and
The first film I'll start with is Hot Fuzz because I watched it tonight. Yeah, I know. Not exactly Halloween fare. However, while it's basically a murder mystery/buddy cop comedy, there are horror elements as well. I mean, Billie Whitelaw is in it and she was scary as hell in The Omen.
Clue is probably less of a given. However, I can't resist seeing more Tim Curry once I've watched The Rocky Horror Picture Show. And Clue does take place on a dark and stormy night and, of course, involves murder.
No Halloween would be complete without the 1939 version of The Hound of the Baskervilles. It's, like, watching the Jeremy Brett version of "The Blue Carbuncle" during the festive season.
If I have time, I might watch Murder By Decree. I've had a craving for it ever since I finished reading Lyndsay Faye's wonderful pastiche, Dust and Shadow. I had originally toyed with the idea of watching it tonight. However, after this week's episode of The Tudors (involving the first two stages of a man being hung, drawn and quartered), I decided to avoid any films based on historical events! Uh, in this instance, I'm referring to Jack the Ripper and not Sherlock Holmes. *g*
The other film I might have to watch (although I saw it not all that long ago) is Murder on the Orient Express. Again, not really Halloween fare, but I'm reading the novel and already find myself tempted to stick in the DVD.
Well, I'd better go or I won't have time to watch anything. *g*

Date: 2010-10-23 06:09 pm (UTC)I love Hot Fuzz. It's a great film. Very funnier and much gorier than I expected when I first saw it. I really have never got the Rocky Horror Show. I mean I've watched it and sort of liked it, but it's really not a film I would even go out of my way to watch!
I can't remember Clue, but I know I've seen it and also like Tim Curry. I love Amercan Werewolf!
I really haven't seen many Sherlock films-was never into them either (although my Dad loves them).
I've been watching a horro documentary on BBC4 and last night was all about hammer horror films so now I want to find some old horror films.
I'd have to have some Halloweeen films in my viewing. I love Halloween 3-season of the witch. I also love The Fog-not halloweeny but I'm gonna watch it. I'll let you know if I watch anything else!

I absolutely love Hot Fuzz. I howled when I saw it in the theatre, while wincing at the gorier scenes. I think last night was my fifth or sixth viewing and I still laughed loudly during certain parts of the movie.

It's not for everyone. I think you have to be a bit sick and twisted to appreciate it. *g*

I think Clue is hilarious and Tim Curry is wonderful in the film. I definitely recommend it.

Well, to appreciate Sherlock Holmes films, I think you have to be a bit sick and -- Nah. Just kidding. *g*

Oh! There's a Hammer version of Hound of the Baskervilles. I can't stand it myself, but you might get a kick out of it if you're wanting to explore the Hammer body of work.
I'd have to have some Halloweeen films in my viewing. I love Halloween 3-season of the witch. I also love The Fog-not halloweeny but I'm gonna watch it. I'll let you know if I watch anything else!
I have to confess that I haven't watched any of the Halloween films, which may not come as a big surprise now that you've seen my list. *g* Let me know if you do watch anything else. I'd be curious to know.
