Possible Research Breakthrough
Oct. 24th, 2010 05:54 pmI probably shouldn't get too excited, but I think I might have made a research breakthrough for my original fiction idea. Because I continually have to make my life more difficult than it needs to be, I've been pursuing an idea that requires not only research into the paranormal but science (namely physics) as well. Well, I already had some knowledge of the paranormal, as it's been an interest of mine for quite a while now. However, science is definitely not one of my strong suits. Hell, I never even took physics in high school. I purposely took two languages (one of which was Latin) to avoid math and science. I mean, I have a BA in English for a reason. Fortunately, despite my inability to comprehend math and science, I think I've still managed to find a way to make my idea work. I need to do a lot more reading and thinking, but it's progress.

Date: 2010-10-25 07:51 am (UTC)Even though I've always been bad at maths, I have also always been interested in physics, astronomy and related subjects. And don't get me started on quantum physics. LOL. Fascinating and scary at the same time.

Date: 2010-10-25 04:46 pm (UTC)There are some useful books on physics for the layperson. I have "The Handy Physics Answer Book" http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/books/The-Handy-Physics-Answer-Book-P-Erik-Gundersen/9781578590582-item.html?ikwid=the+handy+physics+answer+book&ikwsec=Home. It truly is handy. Google is useful, if you have developed sufficient knowledge to discern what is accurate from what is not. In my case, I tend to just use my husband's brain (not to munch on, zombies).

It's nice to talk to someone else who struggles with math. :-) I have to admit that I used to find science pretty boring, but my interest has definitely been growing in recent years. It's great that you've got such a keen interest in science yourself. Physics is something I've started to delve into, though I've been taking baby steps. *g*

Date: 2010-10-25 05:51 pm (UTC)I wouldn't be able to do an English major. Someone would expect me to study poetry at some point, which is a big non-no. I like reading poetry just don't ask me to analyse it or discuss it.
(p.s. Posted in the wrong place on the first try).

Date: 2010-10-25 07:32 pm (UTC)It's reassuring to know that even people who are good at Math struggle with the Train A and Train B question. I think I'd blow up both trains before they had a chance to leave the station myself...Just kidding. Mostly. *g*
BTW, if it makes you feel any better, I actually failed a math exam. It's the reason why I don't have my grade 11 credit. *g*

Yeah, the analysis can be a bit much sometimes. I know I always preferred discussing fiction over poetry. In a way, an English degree can take a bit of the fun out of reading.

No problem. :-)
