I can hardly believe it, but the strange
Maurice parody I scribbled while under the effects of Tylenol Cold Plus has spawned some fic of its own.
fengirl88 has written a new story in her Lestrade/Maurice series in my honour! To steal a British expression, I'm absolutely chuffed! Thank you
very much,
fengirl88! I'm very happy and touched that you would do that! :-D
If you actually
enjoyed my insane little parody, you
must check out
fengirl88's story,
A Change In The Weather. For that matter, you should check out
ALL of her Lestrade/Maurice stories (which I
seriously need to re-read now that I've finally seen
Maurice):
The Bad Old Songs
Beginning To See The Light
Night at the Opera
Night at the Opera (2)
Night at the Opera (3)
I hate to say it, but I had an idea for a sequel to my first
Maurice parody scribble. As I'm still on Tylenol Cold Plus, I might be forced to write it tonight or tomorrow. If it
does get written, you can blame
blooms84, who said she friended me in case I decided to "sneak out to post things once in awhile" -- despite my retirement. *g*

Date: 2010-12-04 09:01 pm (UTC)No problem! I was only too happy to rec A Change In The Weather (http://fengirl88.livejournal.com/27804.html) and the previous stories in the Lestrade/Mycroft series! With any luck, there might be someone on my flist who hasn't read these stories before and will want to check them out. :-)
will look forward to the sequel...
I can't believe I'm actually considering one, but, yes, I think I'll have to write it. Be very afraid... *g*

Date: 2010-12-05 09:36 pm (UTC)Sorry I'm just getting back to you now. I slept in pretty late and had to take care of some of the usual weekend chores, such as grocery shopping, washing dishes, etc. Anywaaaay, my review is positive, though very short -- mostly because I knew I had a certain parody sequel to write. *g* You can find both the review and parody sequel here:

I am this week embarking on watching Dr. Who for the first time (I know, gasp).
Oh, how exciting! Well, a lot of people only got into the show in the last few years because of the new series. Uh, I've been a fan since I was about 13 and saw an episode with the Fifth Doctor on TVO (Ontario's version of PBS). As I already had a crush on Peter Davison because of All Creatures Great and Small, I was really happy to learn that he was Doctor Who. Before that, I refused to watch the show because the music in the opening credits freaked me out as a child. *g*
Doing so because of Gatiss and Moffat, mostly, but I had a great chat with a Who enthusiast I met at a Thanksgiving dinner and she suggested I sample a few shows from each era first--starting with the first incarnation, and then settle on one run to watch all the way through. Make sense? Am very excited--I feel like Magellan.
Oh, that's cool. Well, the new series of Doctor Who is a great showcase for both Gatiss and Moffat. I don't want to disagree with your friend, but if you're mostly watching it for Gatiss and Moffat I'm wondering if it would be better for you to start with some new series episodes instead. I think a lot of new fans seem to have better luck starting with the new series and then working back. I'm saying this because the production values of the older episodes weren't fantastic. My fear is that seeing old style BBC sci fi might put you off if you're not used to it. Of course, if you're already something of a sci fi fan and you're enthusiastic about Doctor Who in general then your friend's suggestion is perfect. :-)
