I'm not surprised by the glowing rec. Your writing is exactly what fredbassett has praised. (Sorry, I don't know the code to link.) Your characters stay incredibly true to the original even while being popped into new situations. That is a gift and you have it in spades.
As if my head wasn't inflated enough! *g* Thank you very much for your extremelygenerous words. It means a lot considering how much knowledge and expertise you've gained through the various writing courses you've taken, not to mention everything you've written, of course. They say it takes one to know one, so, if I have any talent at all, you obviously possess some as well. :-D
I'm beginning to understand my talent is not in the writing, but in the reading. I will continue to write, but I'm not going to hold out hope for publication and fame.
Oh, no! Don't say that! I mean, there's nothing wrong with reading, but don't give up all hope for publication. It's a long hard road for a lot of us. While some natural talent is useful, I like to think that hard work and diligence is even more important. And, sometimes, it's a matter of waiting until you have an idea that will work and you're in the right place (mentally) to commit to a given project.
I guess what I'm trying to say is don't give up altogether. Keep writing because you love it (and that's what counts most), but keep publication as a goal, even if it seems like a distant one.
Oh, I will keep writing because I have to write. I have no choice but to write if I want to keep any sanity. My writing will improve with every word that passes from pen to paper (or keyboard to screen). Some day I may publish, but I'm not going to expect accolades or a living wage.
I have found that I can write one major piece per year and I am restricting that to November's NaNoWriMo because it gives me the most bang for my buck. Once I have finished the courses I'm taking (in another year) I will begin editing my NaNo efforts during the other eleven months. I have a couple that have some positive qualities and I'd like to see how they progress.
I've never been good with the diligence thing. lol
One major piece a year is nothing to sneeze at, njc2007. I like your plan of doing your writing during NaNo and editing previous NaNo works during the other eleven months. It's amazing what you can accomplish with some serious revision. :-)
Thanks, blooms84! :-) Yes, it truly is a gorgeous rec! It was incredibly kind of fredbassett to put that kind of effort into it. I'm touched that she would do that.
