This is only going to be of interest to RoS fans, but I was just watching The Beryl Coronet (from the Douglas Wilmer Sherlock Holmes series) and was all excited because David Burke (Watson from Granada's The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes) played Sir George Burnwell. However, I kept finding myself studying the actor playing Arthur Holder because he seemed familiar. When the credits rolled at the end, I searched out the actor's name and did a double take when I saw the name Richard Carpenter. Even after seeing the name, I didn't think it could be the Richard Carpenter. I mean, I knew that Richard Carpenter had done some acting before he became a screenwriter, but I assumed it had been mostly stage work. However, when I checked on imdb.com, it turned out that it was the Richard Carpenter. No wonder the actor looked familiar: I met the man in 2003! *g*

Date: 2011-02-19 02:30 am (UTC)From what I can see on imdb.com (http://www.imdb.com), it looks as if Richard Carpenter did most of his acting on TV series. However, I suppose these could have been TV movies or maybe they weren't listed on imdb.com (http://www.imdb.com).
You met him! Where and how, what was he like?
I met him and Annabelle Lee (his wife and the actress who played Mad Mab in "Rutterkin") at Silver Arrow 2003. They were both very nice. As there was a long line for autographs, I only had a chance to talk to them for a minute or two, but they made an effort with each and every fan that approached them. If you'd like to read a brief account of the meeting, you can find it here (http://nastyknight.20m.com/sa2003_4.html). Oh, and my entire Silver Arrow 2003 report can be found here (http://nastyknight.20m.com/sa2003.html).
I should warn you that I look AWFUL in every single picture I appear in -- and not just because I was about 50 lbs heavier back then. *g*

Date: 2011-02-22 06:19 pm (UTC)I enjoyed reading your report. I think I have come across it before, but it's far more interesting now that I know you.
I'm glad you spent some time with Robert Addie because he died that year, didn't he?
I must try to get to Chepstow Castle sometime. It looks good even without the RoS associations.
I hope the RoS "Nothing's Forgotten" 2013 Convention happens. I'm hoping to go, though I'm nervous of planning so far ahead. Are you planning to go?

Date: 2011-02-22 08:31 pm (UTC)That's very kind of you to say,
I enjoyed reading your report. I think I have come across it before, but it's far more interesting now that I know you.
It's been up for ages, so it's quite possible that you have read it before. I'm happy that you enjoyed reading it a second time. I'm glad that knowing the con attendee in question made the report more interesting. :-)
I'm glad you spent some time with Robert Addie because he died that year, didn't he?
Yes, sadly Robert Addie died in November of that year. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have met him in both 2000 and 2003.

RoS associations aside, Chepstow Castle is a wonderful place. I think it's stood up fairly well and has so many interesting aspects to it. I definitely recommend visiting it if you get the chance.

I have to admit that I haven't been keeping track of how the con organization has been going. It sounds like there's quite a bit of interest from both old and new fans. I hope you're able to go. You still have two years to save and plan. :-)
Are you planning to go?
I don't think I'll be going. After Silver Arrow 2003, I made the decision that my con days were over. Okay, I went to a Doctor Who con a couple of years ago, but that was in Toronto and just a one-day event. All the same, I don't think my heart's in it anymore. However, the con is still two years away, so you never know. Never say never, right? ;-)

Date: 2011-02-26 03:35 pm (UTC)The con has a facebook page, not a web page, so I can't see what's going on.
Anyway, I don't know if I want to see the cast now so much older! Jason's only ever attended one con, so I doubt if he'll be there.

Date: 2011-02-19 02:44 am (UTC)I wonder if there are any British actors who don't have some kind of connection to Sherlock Holmes? *g* Well, it's great that you made that discovery about Robert Glenister. You'll have to let me know what the audiobook is like. :-)

Well, the episode has been around for more than forty years, so I'm sure it can wait a little longer. *g* Seriously, though, it's best to watch these things when you have the time and inclination. Be sure to look out for David Burke was well. As soon as I heard his voice, I knew it was him. :-)

Date: 2011-02-19 02:50 am (UTC)I honestly wouldn't have known if I hadn't seen his name in the credits. Fortunately, I watch credits obsessively, especially when I'm trying to identify actors. Actually, a couple of familiar faces have popped up in the Douglas Wilmer series. One of the most notable ones is David Troughton (the Second Doctor), who was in "The Devil's Foot".
Was he any good?
Yeah, I think he was pretty good. I mean, I'm no expert but I thought he played the role well. As I told

Date: 2011-02-19 03:46 am (UTC)Well, last night was the first time I had seen him act. I honestly never expected to see him perform as I assumed most of his acting was theatre work for some reason. I wish I could find a clip from "The Beryl Coronet," but I couldn't turn up anything after searching on YouTube.
btw have you seen the Listener yet ?
*Bows head in shame* I'm in the middle of an Archive update, so a lot of my computer time has been spent on that. However, Monday is a holiday, so I should at least have time to watch the season two premiere.

Date: 2011-02-19 01:46 pm (UTC)Also spotted that Yannick Bisson of Murdoch Mysteries is having a guest role on the show, and vice versa, i.e. Craig is having that guest spot on Murdoch Mysteries. I'd love to watch it, cause I do wonder if I'll like Yannick.
Saw him appear on Flashpoint not long ago.
Also am curious to know if you ever log onto twitter... ;-D
Have mentioned you once or twice...
