I snagged this from lazigyrl's LJ because I wanted to spread the word about help_nz as well. As I'm only on the second scene of my qldfloodauction story (and shouldn't be donating fic in the first place because I've retired), I'll just be bidding on items this time around. This is so sad. Not the auction (that's lovely), but that they've been hit again. We're saturated with news covearage of it here and it's really depressing.
One of the girls I work with is from there. Just came over a month or so ago too. Thankfully, she's been able to get in contact with all her family and they're ok.

This is so sad. Not the auction (that's lovely), but that they've been hit again.

It's sad and so unfair. It's bad enough to be hit by an earthquake in the first place, but Christchurch is still recovering from the last one. Not that there's ever a good time for an earthquake.

We're saturated with news covearage of it here and it's really depressing.

There's been quite a bit of coverage here, so I can imagine how much coverage there must be in both New Zealand and Australia.

One of the girls I work with is from there. Just came over a month or so ago too. Thankfully, she's been able to get in contact with all her family and they're ok.

I'm glad that girl was able to contact all her family and discover they were okay. A friend of mine was actually in Christchurch two or three days before the earthquake, so she's lucky she scheduled that part of her trip when she did.

I honestly don't know. I was hoping your part of the world would be spared for a while after the floods in Queensland, etc. My thoughts are with everyone in Christchurch and New Zealand.

I've been wondering the same thing myself. It's so horrible what's been going on in Aussie, and for this to hit us is tragic. The amazing thing is that your rescue service were in Christchurch so fast, even though they've been so busy with their own tragedy. It's nice to know that even though our countries give each other a lot of shit we can still be there when needed. As a Kiwi I wanted to say to an Aussie, Thanks!! We will be forever grateful *hugs*

I believe today we sent over some Victorian coppers too. Not sure what they're gonna do except hit people with their batons or spray them with capsicum spray (I shouldn't be so awful ;) ), but hopefully they'll be of some help too.

It's nice to know that even though our countries give each other a lot of shit .... That's just us though, isn't it? It never means anything. At least we don't. I hope that goes both ways.

It doesn't seem like much, but I hope it helps a little bit. I did some bidding last night and just put in a fic request for Lightning Round 2 (http://community.livejournal.com/help_nz/1776.html). Oh, and I managed to talk herne24 into spreading the word on the rosfic_forum. ;-) Between my LJ and the rosfic_forum, I'd like to think that I might be able to recruit some potential bidders/donors.
