I've been thrown for a loop because my period arrived today when I wasn't expecting it for at least a week. And, no, I don't think I miscounted. It started on the 15th last month, so, unless my math skills are a lot worse than I realized, it's seriously early. The paranoid side of me questioned whether it could be internal bleeding before my saner side slapped my paranoid side and asked her how it could possibly be internal bleeding. Still, it seems kind of strange. I mean, I've had it come three or four days early, but this seems like a stretch. And you'd think I wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth considering that most women don't worry unless their periods are late. *g*

I'll be talking to my mom (the ex-nurse) this afternoon, so I'm sure she'll be able to reassure me in her usual calm fashion. She's had plenty of practice over the years...

little [livejournal.com profile] rusty_armour: WAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!

[livejournal.com profile] rusty_armour's mom: What's wrong?

little [livejournal.com profile] rusty_armour: I SWALLOWED MY TOOTH!!!

[livejournal.com profile] rusty_armour's mom: Well, it's not going to kill you.

little [livejournal.com profile] rusty_armour: BUT THE TOOTH FAIRY WON'T BE ABLE TO FIND IT!!! IT'S IN MY TUMMY!!! WAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

[livejournal.com profile] rusty_armour's mom: Oh, you'll still get your quarter.

little [livejournal.com profile] rusty_armour: SHE WON'T GIVE ME A QUARTER IF SHE CAN'T FIND MY TOOTH!!!

[livejournal.com profile] rusty_armour's mom: Well, I guess she'll just have to use magic, then.

little [livejournal.com profile] rusty_armour: Will it hurt?

[livejournal.com profile] rusty_armour's mom: No, you'll be asleep...God, I hope you're asleep.

On second thought, maybe I'd better keep my fears about internal bleeding to myself. Besides, I don't want to put a damper on the good news. She was afraid I might have PMS on the weekend she comes to stay, and I told her I would probably be about halfway through my period by then. Of course, that probably just led her to worry about my monthly migraine, which is nothing compared to the mood swings -- and they're usually a lot better by the time my period comes. Now, neither mood swings nor migraines should be an issue. :-)

You know, it really was stupid of me not to see it coming. I've been more impatient and short-tempered than usual this week, but I thought that maybe it was because I wasn't getting enough sleep and/or the weather and/or allergies. I've been wincing when I've caught sight of myself in the mirror at work because I've been looking at least ten pounds heavier. However, I just assumed it was because I haven't been getting enough exercise, etc. Actually, it's a huge relief to know that it's water retention because I've been dreading what I'll look like with that additional weight and the water retention. D'uh! Oh, and I found myself buying a box of Junior Mints on Thursday and feeling like such a wuss because it wasn't like I was PMSing and really needed it. Seriously, how can anyone be so incredibly dense?

I was really early a few months ago and I didn't wig about it but I totally did find myself going.... OH that's why I was all "I wonder what would happen if you put chocolate chips in popcorn" a few days ago. And I felt much better that it was hormone related and not severe gluttony.

I'm glad to hear that someone else was really early. :-) I can totally understand the chocolate chips in popcorn thing as I sometimes find myself craving salt instead of chocolate. You were obviously craving both at the same time. *g* BTW, I think chocolate chips in popcorn would taste pretty good. I mean, you see all kinds of other popcorn flavours and toppings, so why not?

What about stress? I know that stress and being nervous can make my cycle very irregular. Which is tiresome, because for quite a while now I have been under a lot of stress and been very nervous and worried... But I'm sure this isn't anything to be concerned about. It's happened to me many times since I was about eighteen and it's never been anything serious. My mom always says that the less I think about it, the better. Which hasn't really helped now, but I suppose it's good advice.

Oh, good point! Yes, I probably have been stressing out a bit more lately, so that might have triggered the earlier period. In fact, I'm sure the same thing has happened in the past and I conveniently forgot about it. I know I had a period end early once when I was sick, though it hasn't happened since.

I'm sorry you've been so stressed, nervous and worried that your cycle has been effected. I hope someday soon you'll be able to feel more calm and relaxed.

Thanks. :) I hope so too.

If it's any consolation, I have 3 week cycles on my period at the moment. Stressed out!
So don't fret my dear! xxx

Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] anitamaid. That definitely does provide some consolation, though I'm really sorry you've been on three week cycles lately. :-( I really appreciate both you and [livejournal.com profile] crimsoncorundum pointing out the effect stress can have on one's cycle. It really should have occurred to me that this might be the case -- not that I'm dealing with the same level of stress you are, but I guess it must have been enough to throw off my cycle.

We are strange beings, women ;-D

Talking of which, what have they done to The Listener? Switched days an all, really hope they keep the good ratings...

I don't know why CTV switched the day and time for The Listener. Maybe the Tuesday timeslot wasn't working. Well, here's hoping they can keep up the good ratings.

I have no idea whether Tuesday was working or not, I thought it was, because of the good ratings.
I really hope it keeps the ratings it had, because I want a 3rd series! More Toby err and more Craig ;-D

Just relax and go with the flow. (Sorry, I didn't intend the pun. Really!)

My cycle was all over the place. Sometimes I'd miss a month. Sometimes I'd get two in a month. Then there was the time the period last seven months. That was the beginning of menopause. It got really weird then. If I can get through it (with lots of emotions and fear) you can too. Just know that there are plenty of people on your flist who will understand and help you through it...no matter what it is.

LOL! It's good advice with or without the pun. *g*

YIKES! That's HORRIBLE! I mean, even if you suspected that it was the onset of menopause, it's not pleasant. :-(

Well, this is pretty inconsequential compared to the other stories I've been hearing in this thread. I really have nothing to complain about. However, it's nice to know that I've got such a sympathethic and compassionate flist. Thanks for extremely kind words, [livejournal.com profile] njc2007. :-)

We're here for you. (By the way, my perimenopause started at 29, so don't think you're too young for it to start.)

I don't think it's perimenopause (as I don't seem to have the other symptoms I read about), though it's obviously still something I should keep in mind.

It's probably nothing to worry about, just one of those weird hormonal things that happen to women.

Never mind, you can enjoy your time with your mom much more.

Yes, I'm sure you're absolutely right. :-)

Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] karen9. I'm sure this will mean being able to enjoy my mom's visit much more. :-)

Occasionally my period will come a week early, but it goes back to normal the month after. It's usually something to do with ovulation - if it occurs early for some reason, then the period will come early. It's usually nothing to worry about and I expect it'll be normal next time.

Thanks for sharing that with me, [livejournal.com profile] alysscarlet. It's good to know. :-) I'm sure there have probably been other times when my period has come a week early. I guess it's just been so long that I forgot it had ever happened before. I know all of my cycles seem to differ from one another in terms of what symptoms end up being the most dominant (other than the mood swings), so I really shouldn't be surprised by this. And, as you say, it will probably be normal next time.

*hugs* Happens to all of us, hon. I hate it when it happens too., And I adore your story of little you and your tooth. So cute :) Your Mom clearly handled it so well.

*Gives hugs in return* Thanks for the moral support, [livejournal.com profile] funkyinfishnet. :-) I'm glad you like my strange tooth story. I took some artistic liberties (e.g. my mom never said that last line), but, otherwise, that's pretty much how it happened. My poor mom also had to deal with a three-year-old [livejournal.com profile] rusty_armour who insisted that there was a ghost in her room. My mom pulled out the vacuum cleaner and told me that she was going to vacuum up the ghost. I stood on the curb and waved goodbye to the ghost as the garbage collectors hauled it away. I guess she figured out how to be a creative parent pretty early on. *g*
