I've been really surprised by the positive feedback I've received for my RUNNING HOT comment fic, An Isolated Apology -- mostly because it was written so quickly and seems pretty rough and sketchy to me. I'm not really happy with it and had already decided that I wasn't going to cross-post it anywhere for that reason. Then, unfortunately, it occurred to me tonight that I could revise it and whip it into better shape. As part of the revision process, I would probably lengthen all three scenes and possibly even add one or two new scenes. However, the question is whether anyone would be interested in a new and, hopefully, improved version of this ficlet? To this end, I'm asking people to take a few seconds to answer the question below:
[Poll #1746333]

Date: 2011-05-29 07:03 am (UTC)Another thing - while searching for another historic cop series, I have just disovered a Canadian historic tv series that seems interesting and I was wondering if you know anything about it. It's called Murdoch Mysteries. At the moment, I don't think there's any chance I'll be able to see it, but if it's good, I'll see what I can do.

Date: 2011-05-29 08:59 pm (UTC)I don't think I said this at the time, but it's really nice to know that you didn't notice anything wrong with the fic. :-) It's also nice to know that you would be interested in seeing some additional material. :-D I have to confess that I did a bit of tinkering this morning without knowing what any of the poll results would be. *g*
Also, revision can't be wrong, even if the fic was good in the first place.
You're absolutely right. There's almost always room for improvement, especially in an instance like this. Because I wrote this fic so quickly, there were things I had thought about adding that didn't make it into the posted version. Saying that, I'm not going to spend a huge amount of time on the revision process, but I'll fiddle around with it when I have the time and inclination. I think I'll probably just end up adding bits and pieces when I think of them over the course of the next week or so.

Oh, yes. I definitely know about it. I love that show. :-) And it's of particular interest to me because it's set in Toronto. In fact, I ended up hunting down the books after watching the first season.

Well, I know the series is shown in Britain (as the series is co-produced by ITV) and available on DVD, so maybe it will be broadcast in Sweden at some point. I just looked on YouTube and some of the episodes seem to be available there. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any episodes from the first season. However, this trailer from Acorn Media might give you a better idea of what the show is like:
Oh, and here's a list (http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_34?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=maureen+jennings+murdoch+mysteries&sprefix=maureen+jennings+murdoch+mysteries) of Maureen Jennings' Murdoch books on Amazon.co.uk.

Date: 2011-05-29 09:54 pm (UTC)I know the feeling. Some movies have been shot around here - and though as you know, I hate it here, it's been a thrill watching the locations I recognize in those movies.
Did you like the books or the series best? Or both the same? The books should be easier to get, but it would be fun to watch the series too.

Thanks. :) Since you like it, I'm pretty sure I'll like it too, judging by the other series we both appreciate. Maybe it will be on here, or it will show up among the movies available for rent, or I'll be able to buy it from Amazon.

Date: 2011-05-29 10:05 pm (UTC)It's hard to say. I saw the series first, so I always picture Murdoch as being Yannick Bisson, which is a bit disconcerting when reading a description in a Jennings novel of Murdoch having a moustache. *g* Seriously, though, I think I like both the series and the books pretty much equally. If you're interested in history then the books might be more satisfying as they provide more details than you can get from the series -- in the sense that you have lots of written description in the novels that is usually handled visually on the show.

I would see if it's something you can rent. I'd hate to have you buy it on DVD and not like it, though I strongly suspect that you would like it. :-)
