I just learned via the RoS YahooGroups List that Richard Carpenter, creator of Robin of Sherwood has passed away. There's a story about him here if anyone is interested. And [livejournal.com profile] alysscarlet was kind enough to direct me to a wonderful tribute that Steve Tyrell posted on his LJ.

Nothing's Forgotten, Kip. Nothing is ever forgotten.

I'm sorry to hear he passed away. Met him at Silver Arrow and thought he was a lovely man. I remember him being pleasantly surprised that I brought him a dutch copy of the Robin of Sherwood novel to sign - he had never seen one before. A sad day for RoS fans indeed. :(

Yes, I also met him at Silver Arrow, where he signed my copies of The Complete Adventures of Robin of Sherwood -- and Smuggler, I think. In any case, he hadn't seen all of the RoS novels in one edition before, so he found that interesting. Oh, and when he discovered where I was from, he told me how much fun his grandchildren had when they tobogganed in Canada. Yes, a lovely man, indeed.

Oh no! That's so sad. I don't know why, but the first thing I thought was "Well, there goes all hope of any more RoS eps." For some reason, even though we all knew there wouldn't be any more, there was still this teeny weeny bit of hope. It just seems so final. He'll certainly be missed!! Nothing is ever forgotten!

I have to confess that I gave up on the idea of any more RoS episodes a long time ago, but I can still understand why that would be your first thought. Well, we'll just have to treasure the episodes we do have. Richard Carpenter will be missed, but certainly never forgotten.

Yes, it certainly is. However, I know fans will keep his work alive in their hearts and memories.

I'd never even have met you , that is all of you girls, if it hadn't been for Kip!
That is really unique, to meet good friends through a good tvseries!

You're absolutely right, [livejournal.com profile] anitamaid. For so many of us, Robin of Sherwood is about more than just a TV series -- as wonderful as that TV series is. It really did bring us all together and cemented friendships that still endure today. To quote Mark Ryan, "For some it's a TV show; for others it's a way of life."

Gisburne's Nasty Knight Page...
Chatting into the wee hours bc of the time difference.
Making wonderful friendships.
It makes me want to sit down and cry, although I'm quite sure Kip wouldn't have wanted that.
I'm so glad I met him!
And you

It is so incredibly sad. Will make us cherish our ROS even more. How lucky are we all that he created such a wonderful show that we all still love and adore 30 years later?!!

RIP Kip xx

It is incredibly sad, but you're right about it making us cherish RoS even more. I think it's a testament to the man's incredible talent as a writer that fans still love Robin of Sherwood almost 30 years after it was created.

I wouldn't have known myself if I hadn't decided to pay a quick visit to the RoS List (http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/RobinOfSherwood/) to see if there was anything new. In any case, it wouldn't have felt right if I hadn't said anything after reading such sad news.

I hope you've been enjoying your holiday, despite this sad news.

RoS was my first real fandom, even before I knew what a fandom was. When I was in highschool, I was obsessed with the show, and was confused when it ended (had no way to know if it was cancelled or if there would ever be any more). When I got internet access, RoS was one of the first things I searched out, and the first mailing list I joined. RoS is the reason why I've visited Canda, England, Wales, Scotland and New Zealand.

It's a bit late to say, but thank you, Kip, for giving us these stories, and for (unbeknownst to you) bringing me out into the wider world.

It's incredible how much a lot of us owe to Kip and Robin of Sherwood. It was also one of my first fandoms (before I knew what fandom was). I got into the show in junior high, but the obsession was probably most intense when I was in high school. I even called my best friend at the time "Lady Wolfshead" as she was also into the show. In any case, I'm grateful that the show has allowed me to attend two conventions in Britain and make so many wonderful friends. And, of course, it has allowed me to spend time with you face-to-face: something that is always a joy and a pleasure. :-D
