Possibly My Most Insane Fic Idea Yet
Apr. 6th, 2012 11:50 amI've tried to exorcize it from my brain, but it's been stuck there since Wednesday night when I saw part one of The Truth About Lions on TVO. Naturally, I had a craving for Pride, which I was able to resist (though I think I'll succumb this afternoon). Worse than that, I found myself remembering the fic idea I had the first time I watched Pride. I was able to quash it at the time, but it won't leave me alone now. I want to write a kind of buddy film type fic with Linus (Rupert Graves) and Fleck (Martin Freeman) reuniting after leaving their pride and, after a few bumps in the road, finding a new pride. So, yeah. I'd be writing a fic about lions. Lions. Oh, and just to be absolutely clear, it wouldn't be slash.
Here's a clip of Linus, Fleck and Suki (Kate Winslet) as cubs for those of you who haven't seen Pride:
If I do write this, I'll probably start it on the weekend when I'm staying with my parents. It would be short. I'm guessing 3,000 or 4,000 words at most. I've also made a bargain with myself that I have to get some work done on my original fiction project today if I decide to pursue this insane idea. All the same, I wouldn't mind a second opinion from any flisties out there who have managed to make it this far in my post:

Date: 2012-04-07 12:37 am (UTC)I think you should try writing a fic and see how it goes. You can always just post it on your flist first and get some feedback from your friends. And I'm sure you've heard this before, but you should write for yourself first, so if you keep coming up with a certain kind of idea then it probably means you should pursue it. :-)

Date: 2012-04-07 05:18 am (UTC)As long as there's nothing sad. I usually don't watch or read anything about animals because they're so often sad.

Date: 2012-04-07 02:40 pm (UTC)There won't be anything sad. Okay, one of the characters will be injured, but he'll get better. I won't be writing at length about any kind of suffering. Like you, I usually avoid watching or reading anything with animals for the same reason. I refuse to watch War Horse even though Benedict Cumberbatch is in it. And I always cry near the end of Breakfast at Tiffany's when Audrey Hepburn kicks Cat out of the cab -- and I do this knowing that she and George Peppard will go looking for him and find him safe and sound in an alley. For that matter, I actually avoided Pride for a while, but the clips I saw were so funny and, once again, I just couldn't resist Rupert Graves.

Date: 2012-04-08 02:18 am (UTC)Yeah, you couldn't pay me enough to watch War Horse.
I hope you're enjoying the long weekend!

Date: 2012-04-09 08:23 pm (UTC)Thank you very much! I'm glad it seems like a good idea! :-D I hadn't thought of it before, I but I suppose I do have a thang for made families. In this case, Linus and Fleck are at least related through their mothers, who were sisters. When Fleck's mother is killed, Linus' mother adopts him, so he becomes his brother. Then, when he grows up, he betrays his pride, but that's a whole other story. *g*
Yeah, you couldn't pay me enough to watch War Horse.
It's definitely on my list of movies to avoid!
I hope you're enjoying the long weekend!
My long weekend has been really good. I hope you've had a great long weekend yourself. :-)
