As I'll be seeing [livejournal.com profile] njc2007 and [livejournal.com profile] lazigyrl in less than a week, I decided to choose "Log Driver's Waltz" as this year's Canada Day vid. I know [livejournal.com profile] njc2007 is very fond of it -- as all Canadians should be!

As is often the case, I don't have any plans for Canada's birthday. I'm hoping to go to Edwards Gardens this afternoon and maybe I'll work Due South or a David Hewlett movie into my viewing schedule for a bit of Cancon. Yeah, okay. I'm a totally crappy Canuck. *g*

I'm ashamed to say I'd never heard of poutine before and had to Google it. I just LOVE that it started life as a quickie-leftovers dish, and then finished up with 'optional extras' including lobster and caviar!

Anyways, having scrutinised the obligatory Picture Gallery (see link), I'm inclined to agree with your judgement that it may be disgusting.

Well, you're ahead of me on your poutine knowledge as I didn't realize that it had started out as a quickie-leftovers dish and could include lobster and caviar! If I could lose the gravy then I might be on board with the lobster variety. *g*

Those images you found really do capture the sheer horror of poutine. *Shiver* If you're looking for a really tasty Canadian treat then I would recommend a Beaver Tail (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beaver_tail_(pastry)). Uh, it's not what you think. It's pastry -- and it doesn't contain any actual beaver. ;-)

Actually you just gave me a tiny plotbunny about upmarket poutine being served ... um somewhere VERY posh in London's Fashionable West End (to celebrate Canada Day of course); and Guess Who might be involved in eating it *points very subtly at icon*

I assume that Beaver Tail is packed with carbohydrates? Starches? Sugars? Thought so - yay! Right up my street!

LOL! Oh, that would be awesome! I'm really looking forward to that fic! :-D

Oh, yes, indeed. I'm pretty sure it's packed with all three. *g*

I shall attempt to shoehorn the poutine into the third part of the latest trilogy (me having just finished what might - or indeed, might not - be described as The Two Towers-ish part).

Not sure I can also include Beaver Tails, especially as it would be in French on this exclusive menu - Queues de castor? (Do they call it that in Quebec??)

No worries if it doesn't make it into your The Return of the King-ish installment. I mean, if it fits, that's great, but don't force it if it doesn't. :-)

I just did a quick search and it looks like they do call them Queues de castor in Quebec! *g* However, I wouldn't worry about including them, unless you think of a way to make them work and it's something you want to do. :-)

Well, I do have to shoehorn teh hawt sex into it somewhere along the line! However, sex AND beaver tails would be Quite Something methinks ....

*looks critically at that last sentence and runs away very fast*
