...which is why I thought I'd better create a couple of new tags to make it easier to track down certain entries.
It all started after I posted about
my tour of the Old Don Jail. I realized that I'd written quite a few posts about Toronto historical tours and/or ghost walks, but hadn't really created a suitable tag for them, which is how the
toronto tag came about. I thought I'd only have 20 entries at most. I ended up with 50. Then, unfortunately, I had the brilliant idea to tag all my entries about the cats with a
cats tag. Actually, that wasn't horrible. Surprisingly, I only found
10 11 entries that qualified. I was sure I'd tortured my flist more. I obviously have to embrace my inner crazy cat lady a bit more.
In case you're wondering, I'm on a serious
Scarlet Pimpernel kick. I made the mistake of borrowing the Richard Carpenter version of
The Scarlet Pimpernel from
pyrateanny and became instantly hooked. In fact, I ended up ordering a copy of the series from Amazon.co.uk. I've really got to stop borrowing Richard Carpenter series from
pyrateanny
as the exact same thing happened when I borrowed her copy of
Smuggler. Actually, it's a bit worse with
The Scarlet Pimpernel. I started reading the novel (downloaded from
Project Gutenberg along with some other books in the series) and have found myself reading about the French Revolution. And TV has now been conspiring against me. Last night, there was a program about Napoleon on WNED -- and another one on TVO about the
Battle of Quebec, which was part of the
Seven Years' War, one of the factors (due to the resulting financial crisis) that led to the French Revolution. If I start writing epigrams or smuggle people out of Quebec, I'll know I'm
really in trouble.

Date: 2013-06-12 09:15 pm (UTC)I'd like to see The Scarlet Pimpernel series, but unfortunately it's not on the streaming site I use. I found the novel rather heavy-going. I'm not sure if I've got it anymore. I originally bought it for my mom who loved the story. The Seven Years' War is interesting. I've read a bit about it. I'd like to find a good novel on it.
If you're going to attempt smuggling of any sort, get Minerva to help you. You can then use your cats tag if you're allowed to write in your LJ in jail!

Date: 2013-06-13 01:47 am (UTC)I know. I'm deeply ashamed. I'll be at my parents' on Sunday, so maybe I can snap some cat pictures. Actually, I'd like to get a shot of Barnaby trying to drag his blankie behind him. It isn't enough for him to run off and hide pens: he craves a bigger challenge. *g*

This isn't as ideal as your streaming site, but all of the episodes can be found on YouTube:

Just scroll down to the bottom of Scarlet Pimpernel's profile page to find The Scarlet Pimpernel. In the mean time, here's a fan vid for the Richard Carpenter version:

Maybe you weren't in the mood to read it at the time, or it just isn't your kind of novel. I think you do have to get used to the style of language and storytelling, so there's definitely some mental exercise involved.

It's great that you bought a copy for your mom. That would be a wonderful gift for a fan. :-) As I said in my post, I downloaded my copy from Gutenberg. Here's a listing (http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/search/?query=Baroness+orczy) of Baroness Orczy works. Most books are available in multiple formats, such as HTML, epub and Kindle. Oh, and you can find every book from The Scarlet Pimpernel series (in HTML format) at Blakeney Manor (http://www.blakeneymanor.com/series.html).
The Seven Years' War is interesting. I've read a bit about it. I'd like to find a good novel on it.
Oh, a novel set in that period would be amazing! If I hear of any, I'll let you know!

Wow. You really want to see more entries with my cats tag. *g* Well, I'd be tempted to bring Minerva along on my highly dangerous mission if I didn't know that she would be ten times more charming and witty than I am. I also suspect that her French is better, even though she hasn't been taught to speak any of the language... ;-)

Date: 2013-06-12 09:37 pm (UTC)As I said before one of my first het couples! Viva la kink!
Awesome that you brought the series! And, (referring back to your email), at such a good price!
I have at least one of the novels in paperback (probably more), but I ran across one last night when I was looking for something else. Reading the books I brought when we hit chapters seems to have start a trend back toward actual paper books.
You could smuggle me into Quebec?

I can definitely understand why! I've only read the first nine chapters, but I'm totally digging the love/hate relationship between Percy and Marguerite. I've always had a thing for that.

I hope you'll like it if you do end up borrowing it. I should probably point out that Richard Carpenter has taken a lot of artistic licence with the series. For example, he gives a completely different reason for why Marguerite betrays the St Cyr family. Despite its rather melodramatic nature, I think it works better in a way because it definitely gives Marguerite real motivation for hating the family. I mean, I think it's explained well in the novel, but Carpenter definitely takes it a few steps further...

That's so ironic because I've gone the other way. I now seem to be reading a lot more in digital format. *g* Of course, there's nothing like having a paperback in your hand, but Gutenberg makes it way too easy to download classics. In fact, I ended up making a donation last night because I started feeling guilty about how many books I've downloaded. Anywaaaaay, I hope you enjoy this trend towards actual paper books. If you're trying to keep track of all the books in The Scarlet Pimpernel series, I would suggest visiting Blakeney Manor (http://www.blakeneymanor.com/series.html). It has a list of all the books, which are available in HTML version.

Ooooooooh! Not to brag or anything, but I think I could. We just need a couple of train tickets and two very clever disguises...Okay, the two train tickets alone would probably suffice. *g*
