I tried to resist posting more fic recs, but I just discovered two fabulous Skyfall stories that I have to share. In fact, they're the Bond/Mallory stories I've been wanting since I first saw the movie! They are thegrumblingirl's They Say He's a Wild One and Rhuia's Resonance.

In case anyone suspects that I've spent all my free time reading fic, I can assure you that I haven't. I've also been sitting inside dark movie theatres as well. Every month, the Yonge/Dundas Cineplex screens classic films. They got me in July with To Catch a Thief and The Manchurian Candidate. While I thoroughly enjoyed To Catch a Thief, I was blown away by The Manchurian Candidate. OH. MY. GOD.. If you get the chance to see it on the big screen, go, though I highly recommend it whatever the format. Just make sure you see the original and not the shitty remake. This trailer doesn't do the film justice, but it was the best one I could find on YouTube:

Speaking of films, I finally caved and bought Shaun of the Dead. I really don't know why I didn't buy it sooner -- other than the fact that I like Hot Fuzz better. However, I've had this irresistible urge to watch the first two-thirds of the Cornetto Trilogy before seeing The World's End.

I was able to find Shaun of the Dead at my local BMV for $5.99, which is pretty awesome. I think I've only seen it once, and that was shortly after Hot Fuzz came out. It's definitely been way too long. I'm really looking forward to rewatching it tonight.

It's always good when you manage to wait until the price really drop! I am very very bad at it.

I'm desperately trying to finish up my freelance stuff and get ahead enough at the day job that I can enjoy my time off at the end of the week. I'm thinking I'll finally watch the copy of Skyfall you lent me. In which case, I'll probably be checking out those recs! Not that watching the source material is always necessary for me to read fic :)

I can see why both those movies would be fun on the big screen. Lots of wide shots I think? Swinging on rooftops and assassins if I remember correctly? Retro can be such fun if only to enjoy the fashions.

Oh, believe me, I'm usually very very bad at it as well, unless it's a DVD I'm not in a huge rush to own. I think that was the case with Shaun of the Dead -- until those cravings hit. Then I just lucked out by finding it at BMV. I went there fully prepared not to find it and discovered that they had at least 6 or 7 copies. *g*

I hope you succeed! Knowing you have the end of the week off might be the motivation you need to wrap things up, though obviously you can't break the laws of time, unless you're Christopher Reeve in Superman...or whatever. ;-)

I'm thinking I'll finally watch the copy of Skyfall you lent me.

Well, there's absolutely no hurry to watch Skyfall, so please don't stress yourself out about that. :-) I'd suggest saving it for our weekend, but I don't know if it would be E's cup of tea. Well, whatever you decide is absolutely fine with me. :-)

In which case, I'll probably be checking out those recs! Not that watching the source material is always necessary for me to read fic :)

It's entirely up to you. I think you might like the recs because there's definitely a power dynamic going on there. However, I should warn you that both stories have spoilers for the end of the film. Of course, you may be spoiled already, so maybe that wouldn't be a problem. When you do watch the film, I'd be interested to know which pairing appeals to you (if any do). I have a feeling you might be more of a 00Q girl. I was one myself for a while -- mostly because there was no Bond/Mallory fic at first. Actually, there's still very little of it, while there's a massive amount of 00Q.

I can see why both those movies would be fun on the big screen. Lots of wide shots I think? Swinging on rooftops and assassins if I remember correctly?

You are correct on all counts! :-) Yes, there are lots of wide shots, especially in To Catch a Thief with all of those wonderful sweeping shots of the Riviera. Of course, any Hitchcock film looks magnificent on the big screen. I was in absolute heaven when I saw Vertigo at Yonge/Dundas. :-) As for The Manchurian Candidate, it had some wide shots, some very close shots and some brilliant camera angles in general. Oh, and there were certainly assassins.

Retro can be such fun if only to enjoy the fashions.

Oh, definitely! Grace Kelly has some gorgeous outfits in To Catch a Thief. Cary Grant looked very fine too, for that matter. Actually, I was very amused to see him wearing a black and white striped top with a red scarf at the beginning of the film as stripe patterns (and those particular colours) are all the rage this season. *g*

I like both Fuzz and Shaun, with the latter being my favorite because of my predilection for horror movies. This comedic pair never fails to impress, and with the addition of darling Martin, World's End will be pretty awesome. We'll just pretend Ted never happened. LOL 'hugs'

I think a lot of people prefer Shaun, especially if they're fans of horror movies. I do like Shaun. I like it even more after just rewatching it. However, I can relate more to Hot Fuzz. In any case, as you've pointed out, Pegg and Frost never fail to impress, so it's hard to go wrong when you've got the two of them in a movie. And, yes, I'm happy to see Martin getting a bigger part in The World's End. That will make the film extra awesome. *Big hugs in return* :-D

I love Shaun of the dead more than Hot Fuzz but have prob watched it a bit too much hehe. I'm not sure if I'm gonna see the new film though as I really didn't like Paul much at all :(

I haven't actually seen Paul. I wouldn't mind watching it out of pure curiosity, but I don't want to buy the DVD. As The World's End seems to be very much in the same vein as Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, I think it will be good. I certainly love what I've been seeing in the trailers.

Oh, isn't To Catch A Thief a Hitchcock, with Cary Grant and Grace Kelly? I'd love to see that, on big or small screen. I love Grace Kelly. I try to watch the classics but they're rarely on TV at a convienent time.

Glad you got to see Shaun Of The Dead, I saw that at university. Hot Fuzz is great too - I've read some great fics. I'd love to see World's End, I was hoping to take Anthony last week, but the whole tooth-extraction put the lid on that :(

Yes, To Catch A Thief is a Hitchcock film with Cary Grant and Grace Kelly. In fact, it was Grace Kelly's final film before she became Princess Grace of Monaco. Anywaaaaaay, I think you'd definitely enjoy it. It's got a great mix of everything: adventure, romance, mystery and comedy. Hell, it's worth it for the gorgeous scenery alone. :-)

I try to watch the classics but they're rarely on TV at a convienent time.

Yeah, I know what you mean. There's a channel that basically specializes in classic films, but I often forget about it or tune in when it's something I'm not interested in. Saying that, I have managed to catch some gems on that channel. I just need to make more of an effort to check the schedule.

Well, I had seen Shaun of the Dead the one time. I rented the DVD right after seeing Hot Fuzz on the big screen. It's nice to actually own the DVD now. :-)

Strangetly enough, I haven't tried to search out Hot Fuzz fic, though I did come across this great Spaced podfic not that long ago.

I'd love to see World's End, I was hoping to take Anthony last week, but the whole tooth-extraction put the lid on that :(

I hope you guys get to see it soon. It's not hitting theatres here until the end of the month.

Oooh, I feel the need to share with you my favourite Spaced. It's called 'Harry Potter And The Reluctant Fanboy' and it's Tim/Daisy and it's adorable, hope you like it: http://yuletidetreasure.org/archive/40/harrypotter.html

I'm quite proud of the fact that Spaced is one of the TV shows that I introduced Anthony to, yay for gaining that wonderful show more fans :) Such a warm fuzzy show, it's like a big geeky hug.

Ooooooh! Thank you! I'm looking forward to reading that! :-D

It's great that you introduced Anthony to Spaced! That's truly a worthy accomplishment! :-D I'd been debating whether to get Spaced and a co-worker (and fellow geek) convinced me it was worth it. However, the price was still pretty high at the time, so I waited until it dropped and then asked for it for Christmas. I quickly worked my way through not only the episodes but all the commentaries and other special features. I've been tempted to rewatch it, but I'm going to wait until I've seen The World's End because I have a feeling I'll really be craving more Pegg/Wright/Frost after that. *g*

I adore Hot Fuzz. It's a film that gets better with repeated viewings. I especially enjoy some of the extras. The commentary with the real police officers is quite interesting, as is the trivia track that can play whilst the movie does. I must admit that I just bought the extended edition on Bluray.

Have you seen The World's End yet? If so, is it entertaining? I'm seeing it Saturday. Really looking forward to it.

Oh, awesome! I'm glad you're such a big fan of Hot Fuzz. :-D I don't have the extended edition. I bought the first DVD that came out, though I've got to say that the special features on that aren't too shabby either.

Unfortunately, we're not getting The World's End until August 29th, so I may not be seeing it until some time in September. I hope you enjoy it. If the trailers are any indication, it looks like it could be a great film. :-)
