Up until now, I've managed to filter out most of the news surrounding the Olympics. However, my sister sent me an article about the opening ceremonies that I couldn't help reading. Some of you may have heard about this already, but apparently the adorable Lin Miaoke was lip synching "Ode to the Motherland" and the song was actually sung by seven-year-old Yang Peiyi. However, as Yang Peiyi is chubby and has uneven teeth, she didn't provide the kind of image China wants to project to the world. Of course, this is the same country that is only using tall, thin, attractive, young women as medal presenters. Gee, what are you going to do next? Film beautiful young actors in posh hotel suites pretending to be political dissidents? Or maybe you'll get Lin Miaoke to lip synch a song about the virtues of censorship and human rights violations?

Uh...yeah. Good luck with that.

We were watching the little girl singing and laughing that her parents were being threatened with death to make her sing, but in fact she was faking!

You'd have thought of all the millions of little girls there are in China they'd have been able to find one that both looked 'pretty' and could sing. Weird.

Wow. I hadn't heard that the parents had been threatened with death! I'd hate to think what they might have been threatened with if the Chinese government had wanted their little girl to do more than lip synch! *g*

No, I don't get it either. It's very weird.

No, her parents hadn't been threatened with death as far as I know! That was a joke we were having about China....

Although anything is possible.

LOL! Oooops! I should have read your original comment more carefully! It did seem a bit extreme, even for the Chinese government! *g*
