Talk about strange. I almost fainted while waiting for the subway at Sheppard Station. I wish I could blame it on low blood sugar, but, for the first time I can remember, I almost swooned over something I read in a book - Gyles Brandreth's Oscar Wilde and a Game Called Murder, to be precise.

Usually, I have no problem reading about murders. I mean, I've been reading mysteries for years. However, I'm squeamish when it comes to anything involving veins and blood. And Brandreth didn't hold back on the details. Before I knew it, I was feeling sweaty and nauseous. Then I was dizzy and there were spots before my eyes. I immediately closed the book and put it in my bag, but the damage had been done. Thankfully, I managed to stay on my feet and somehow made it on to the train when it pulled into the station. Although I was tempted to stick my head between my knees, I settled for closing my eyes. By the time I reached Eglinton, the spell had passed, though I was still feeling shaky. To be honest, I'm still feeling kind of shaky. However, as I'm a cyber geek, I'm pouring out this sad anecdote on LJ instead of, oh, eating or lying down. Hmm...as I'm about ten minutes into House maybe I'll do that now. Eating that is. Well, I'll probably dine on my bed, so I guess there will be a bit of lying down involved as well.

Yeah, it was pretty detailed or, at least, detailed enough to set me off. I'm sure there are lots of people who could read that scene and have absolutely no problem with it, but, like I said, I apparently can't deal with that particular kind of gore. Still, my reaction totally took me by surprise. I mean, I know I can be squeamish about certain things, but it isn't usually to that degree. Anywaaaay, I'm okay now, though I think I'm going to have to skip ahead to the next scene in the book because I still can't think about what I read without feeling a little nauseous. *g*
