Today hasn't been great so far. I ended up eating a bowl of cereal with sour milk, found a cockroach in my bathroom, and was half an hour late for work because Toronto has finally received its first real snowfall.

I want to go home, despite the cockroach in the bathroom. I tried to make a deal with the cockroach. I've asked it if it could do one of the following before I return home tonight: go back down the drain, be in the sink so I can flush it down the drain, or hide somewhere I can't see it so I can pretend it's gone down the drain. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that it will still be exactly where I left it next time I walk into the bathroom...

so sorry for that bad morning! use the three crappy things as a perfect excuse to 1)get yummy takeout for dinner to destroy the memory of cereal/milk disaster; 2)buy awesome new scarf or gloves or boots or hat or snow shovel (?) or whatever snow-related items turn you on; 3) ask friendly neighbor child if he/she would like to start a bug collection for school project . . . and show him/her the way to the bathroom.
4)fall asleep watching hilarious or smutty movie of your choice in bed to ensure a better day tomorrow.

Thanks for all of those wonderful suggestions! Fortunately, the cockroach seems to have disappeared, and I only have to worry about shovelling snow when I'm at my parents' place as I live in an apartment and take public transit everywhere. I did end up watching a DVD while eating dinner and working on a Christmas card, so I sort of followed your advice in that respect. ;-) Actually, I'd say that your generous rec and feedback proved to be the best antidote for my bad morning. They both made my day. :-D

ah, that's great--so things are looking up (except for the cockroach--we hope he has found his way down the drain of his own accord). I am completely procrastinating--and have to stop it--have a work project due tomorrow, but instead . . . have been pondering how to make Lestrade the awkward and uncomfortable one in a Mystrade fic. It's not easy! Am a little stumped but assume it will all work out eventually . . . Sleep well. . . .

Good luck with both the work project and the brainstorming session for your Mystrade fic. The only thing I can come up with is Lestrade feeling awkward and uncomfortable because of a certain social situation. I'm probably being influenced by [livejournal.com profile] fengirl88, but Lestrade could feel like a fish out of water if they're at a fancy party or somewhere with a lot of posh people. Oh, another idea that just popped into my head is something that triggers a bad memory or a situation involving a phobia. I know Lestrade thought Mycroft was claustrophic in that elevator, but maybe Lestrade himself has a phobia that's real.

omg--love the phobia idea! !!! (I was thinking posh black tie too, but really didn't want to be in fengirl's Maurice/Lestrade territory)
phobia is brilliant! am stealing that, if it's okay with you. argh. just started on RL work, so have to finish, but maybe I can dream of mystrade . . . and will let you know when the holmestice folks post my melancholy Lestrade Xmas tale. no idea when that happens. thank you for the phobic!Lestrade!

Please steal away! If phobic!Lestrade works for you then take the idea and run with it! Besides, on a purely selfish level, I'd love to see you write this story! :-D

Sorry you have to finish the RL work first. However, this gives you a chance to play around with some ideas in your head. Oh, and please let me know when your melancholy Lestrade Xmas tale is posted because I definitely want to read that story as well!

oh dear. have been thinking off and on about the phobia idea and now you're going to be completely blamed for a lot of smut and foolishness. Lestrade's phobia: dogs. but mycroft has five at his country house. he must cure Greg because he really can't be with a man who doesn't love his doggies. Greg may not be able to even kiss Mycroft's sweet lips once he realizes those mutts have all been there before him. . . . this is a major relationship crisis! I hope they survive!

Ooooooh! I'll totally accept the blame because I love this idea! :-) For some reason, I can easily picture Mycroft with both a country house and five dogs that he absolutely adores. I can also imagine him doing the baby talk thing and smothering his dogs with affection, which is why Lestrade's phobia would be such a problem. I can't wait to see poor jittery Lestrade and learn how Mycroft plans to cure him of his cynophobia!
