Today hasn't been great so far. I ended up eating a bowl of cereal with sour milk, found a cockroach in my bathroom, and was half an hour late for work because Toronto has finally received its first real snowfall.

I want to go home, despite the cockroach in the bathroom. I tried to make a deal with the cockroach. I've asked it if it could do one of the following before I return home tonight: go back down the drain, be in the sink so I can flush it down the drain, or hide somewhere I can't see it so I can pretend it's gone down the drain. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that it will still be exactly where I left it next time I walk into the bathroom...

Oh dear, that is not a good way to start off the week. I'm sorry. *hugs* I'll come kill the cockroach for you. ;)

*Returns hug* Thanks for the sympathy and your offer to kill the cockroach. If the cockroach is still in the bathroom a week from now, I might take you up on your offer. *g*

yeah, cockroaches (or penisroaches as we called them back in the day on an X-Files board that wouldn't let use cock -- it was funnier than just using the ole 0 for an o) are very uncooperative and never do what you want them to.

We have snow again here, winter I'm afraid, has arrived.

LOL! I didn't realize there was an X-Files board that banned the use of the word "cock"! I think even cockroaches are more cooperative than that! *g* Well, thankfully, there was no sign of the cockroach when I got home. I don't know if it went back down the drain or if it's just hiding, but I'm grateful that I can't see it. *g*

I'm sorry you've also got the nasty white stuff. Yes, as you say, winter is definitely here.

I would have asked it to clean the apartment and have dinner on the table when I got home in addition to paying its share of the rent/mortgage. I mean, if it wants to move it, it has to pull its weight.

Dammit! Why didn't I think of that this morning? This is what happens when you have a brain that can't function before 10:00 am. Unfortunately, the cockroach appears to have honoured our bargain as it was gone when I got home. However, if it reappears, I'll be sure to remember your excellent advice.

Sometimes a little humour can help us cope with things. I hope my humour brought a small smile.

I think laughter often is the best medicine. Thanks for sharing your own excellent sense of humour. :-)

I'm sorry you also had a crap start to your week. It sounds like it's something that's going around as at least two other people on my flist had bad Monday mornings as well.

so sorry for that bad morning! use the three crappy things as a perfect excuse to 1)get yummy takeout for dinner to destroy the memory of cereal/milk disaster; 2)buy awesome new scarf or gloves or boots or hat or snow shovel (?) or whatever snow-related items turn you on; 3) ask friendly neighbor child if he/she would like to start a bug collection for school project . . . and show him/her the way to the bathroom.
4)fall asleep watching hilarious or smutty movie of your choice in bed to ensure a better day tomorrow.

Thanks for all of those wonderful suggestions! Fortunately, the cockroach seems to have disappeared, and I only have to worry about shovelling snow when I'm at my parents' place as I live in an apartment and take public transit everywhere. I did end up watching a DVD while eating dinner and working on a Christmas card, so I sort of followed your advice in that respect. ;-) Actually, I'd say that your generous rec and feedback proved to be the best antidote for my bad morning. They both made my day. :-D

ah, that's great--so things are looking up (except for the cockroach--we hope he has found his way down the drain of his own accord). I am completely procrastinating--and have to stop it--have a work project due tomorrow, but instead . . . have been pondering how to make Lestrade the awkward and uncomfortable one in a Mystrade fic. It's not easy! Am a little stumped but assume it will all work out eventually . . . Sleep well. . . .

Good luck with both the work project and the brainstorming session for your Mystrade fic. The only thing I can come up with is Lestrade feeling awkward and uncomfortable because of a certain social situation. I'm probably being influenced by [livejournal.com profile] fengirl88, but Lestrade could feel like a fish out of water if they're at a fancy party or somewhere with a lot of posh people. Oh, another idea that just popped into my head is something that triggers a bad memory or a situation involving a phobia. I know Lestrade thought Mycroft was claustrophic in that elevator, but maybe Lestrade himself has a phobia that's real.

omg--love the phobia idea! !!! (I was thinking posh black tie too, but really didn't want to be in fengirl's Maurice/Lestrade territory)
phobia is brilliant! am stealing that, if it's okay with you. argh. just started on RL work, so have to finish, but maybe I can dream of mystrade . . . and will let you know when the holmestice folks post my melancholy Lestrade Xmas tale. no idea when that happens. thank you for the phobic!Lestrade!

Please steal away! If phobic!Lestrade works for you then take the idea and run with it! Besides, on a purely selfish level, I'd love to see you write this story! :-D

Sorry you have to finish the RL work first. However, this gives you a chance to play around with some ideas in your head. Oh, and please let me know when your melancholy Lestrade Xmas tale is posted because I definitely want to read that story as well!

oh dear. have been thinking off and on about the phobia idea and now you're going to be completely blamed for a lot of smut and foolishness. Lestrade's phobia: dogs. but mycroft has five at his country house. he must cure Greg because he really can't be with a man who doesn't love his doggies. Greg may not be able to even kiss Mycroft's sweet lips once he realizes those mutts have all been there before him. . . . this is a major relationship crisis! I hope they survive!

Ooooooh! I'll totally accept the blame because I love this idea! :-) For some reason, I can easily picture Mycroft with both a country house and five dogs that he absolutely adores. I can also imagine him doing the baby talk thing and smothering his dogs with affection, which is why Lestrade's phobia would be such a problem. I can't wait to see poor jittery Lestrade and learn how Mycroft plans to cure him of his cynophobia!

*hugs* So sorry to hear about your bad day. I'm not good with insect visitors either. I usually scramble away and demand my hubby deal with them. He is usually not happy with this lol. I hope the cockroach has honoured the deal and disappeared and that there is no more sour milk or snowfall.

*Returns hugs* Thanks for both the *hugs* and sympathy, [livejournal.com profile] funkyinfishnet. :-) I'm happy to say that there's been no further sign of the cockroach, so I guess it did honour our deal. I was also able to enjoy cereal that didn't have sour milk, so that's also a plus. I'm pretty sure there will be more snowfall as I heard an alarming estimate of how much we're supposed to receive this week. There are parts of Ontario that have already received about 70 cm... *shudder*

Have to say-have never had a cockroach here thankfully. We do have spiders though. We usually just move tthem to another part of the house if they're in the way-not sure I'd be so accommodating for roaches ;p

We've only had a light snowfall, although icy conditions last week. The rest of the country has been getting snow by the bucketload, we've managed to escape so far (I'd like some for photography though)

Well, seeing cockroaches is a farely rare occurrence for me. I think this is the third one I've seen in the space of about nine years, so that's not too bad. Every time I've seen one, it's been in the bathroom, so I'm pretty sure they come up through the drains. I wonder if the sudden drop in temperature sent this one looking for a warmer place to hang out.

I have no issues with spiders and usually let them be. Of course, the only spiders I've seen in my apartment have been very small -- nothing larger than a daddy long legs, anyway.

I'm glad you were spared the heavy snowfall, though icy conditions aren't exactly a picnic either. I hope you receive enough snow to take some great pictures, but nothing more. ;-)

We've been dealing with mice. I think we're up to 12 caught so far this fall/winter. And only 1 by the cats! Either the mice are very good at not being caught in open spaces, or the cats are seeing them, thinking "Nah, I'm full enough" and letting them go.

If you see another cockroach, try singing to it. Maybe you can make it a housemaid...

Oh, Herne! I'll take a cockroach any day over a mouse! Mice freak the hell out of me. I mean, don't get me wrong. I have nothing against them as a species. I just hate the thought of one suddenly shooting across the floor towards me or running across my foot. And I say this having had a hamster and a pet rat as a kid.

I hope you've seen the last of your furry little friends.

And only 1 by the cats! Either the mice are very good at not being caught in open spaces, or the cats are seeing them, thinking "Nah, I'm full enough" and letting them go.

I should get my parents to send you Oakley. He's a fantastic mouser. My brother managed to bring a mouse home from work last year in his lunch bag. Oakley had it cornered almost immediately and my dad was able to shoo it outside. Of course, Oakley used to earn his keep as a mouser at Weall & Cullen. My mom brought him home when they didn't want him anymore.

If you see another cockroach, try singing to it. Maybe you can make it a housemaid...

LOL! I'll try to remember that. *g*
