Tonight, I had the opportunity to see inside the Gibraltar Point Lighthouse, which is very rarely open to the public. In fact, this tour wouldn't have been possible at all if the founder of Muddy York Tours hadn't spent two years pleading his case to Toronto Parks & Rec. And I wouldn't have even known there was a tour if [profile] pyrateanny hadn't been kind enough to give me the heads up. Lots of pics of a haunted lighthouse this way! )

I shamelessly stole this vid from [livejournal.com profile] killerweasel because it's just so freakin' HILARIOUS! And, although it appeals to me because I'm from Toronto, you don't have to be from here to find it funny.

Before I say anything, I just want to thank [profile] njc2007 and [profile] lazigyrl for asking me to attend Polaris (again) and for being such warm and generous friends! I had an absolutely wonderful time and I'm sure they were the main reason for that! :-D MASSIVE geekfest ahead. )

Union Station was closed for several hours yesterday because of flooding. I have to admit that my main concern was getting home last night, which wasn't really a concern because I already had at least two or three different options. In other words, I wasn't terribly worried about poor Union Station. However, I realized the full gravity of the situation today when certain pictures came to light. Warning: some flisties may find these images deeply disturbing. )

Today was my last day at the Markham office. My official last day as opposed to Thursday when I thought it was my last day and then discovered our stuff wouldn't be moved until Monday. I'm sorry, but, yes, it's true. Tonight's entry *is* this boring. )

Yes, I am *that* cruel. )

On Saturday, I visited Mackenzie House, Todmorden Mills, and Spadina House as part of a ghost research course. Yes, you read that correctly. And, no, I didn't have any paranormal experiences, but I did manage to take some rather nice pictures that I thought I'd share. What's in it for me? )

Rob Fuckin' Ford is mayor. Toronto is now completely DOOMED. :-(

On a purely selfish level, I'm pissed off because I had to stand in line at my polling station for about 35-40 minutes with this incredibly irritating little man who wouldn't stop talking to me. Even when I pulled out my book and started reading, he would be standing right beside me or practically be on my heels. After a while, I just stopped responding to anything he said, so he ended up making inane comments to himself about how long the line was, etc. The only break I got was when he'd see an empty chair along the wall and announce that he was going to sit down. As if I actually gave a shit.

I'm really tempted to pull a beer out of my fridge and down the whole thing. I need some way to cope with this horrible news.

I know that at least a couple of people have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of my NEW Primeval action figures. Well, I'm very happy to announce that they made it across the pond (thanks to [profile] boobamiaow) and were delivered safely to my eager hands when my mom came on Friday night for our annual EX Weekend. Oh, come on. You know you want to see them. )

Two weeks ago, my mom and I decided to go down to Harbourfront to see the Tall Ships. They were in Toronto from June 30th to July 4th as part of The Great Lakes United TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE, an event being held to raise awareness of water conservation and the need to protect the Great Lakes. I took a ton of pictures and thought I'd post some of the nicer ones here. Avast, me hearties! )

It's been a rather strange day. For one thing, I seem to be using the word 'rather' a lot. )

I have to admit that I’m surprised. When I learned yesterday that the TTC was holding a meeting to address ways in which it might improve its relationship with its customers, I laughed. A lot. However, it looks as if some real progress has been made. This morning, Kevin from TTC Control told BT viewers that they should be polite to bus drivers, which made me conclude that the TTC must have experienced some kind of epiphany. It’s the customers that need to change, not us. Customers should be treating us better, not the other way round. We’re not the problem: they are. Yeah, it's another one of *those* posts )

The day hasn't started off well. Well, it is Monday, Einstein )

I know. Three posts in two days is a bit excessive for me (even when it's fic-related), but I had to write something about my afternoon tea experience. I don't get out much, okay? )

For this year’s annual Halloween ghost walk, I decided to go solo and not drag any friends along. I also decided to book with Muddy York Walking Tours instead of Tasty Tours because I had already gone on the ghost walk Shirley was offering a couple of years ago. And, while I knew I might be covering some of the same ground I had covered before, I thought Muddy York’s The Haunted Streets of Downtown Toronto should still be interesting.

Let’s do the time warp again! )

Or the day I finally tracked down a Master action figure! )

Talk about strange. I almost fainted while waiting for the subway at Sheppard Station. I wish I could blame it on low blood sugar, but, for the first time I can remember, I almost swooned over something I read in a book - Gyles Brandreth's Oscar Wilde and a Game Called Murder, to be precise. Yes, apparently I am that pathetic. )
